Parts of Manhattan was left in the dark after a huge power outage, causing Jennifer Lopez to cancel her concert at Madison Square Garden. More inside...

The city that never sleeps went black yesterday!

A huge power outage went down in the Big Apple, shutting off power for about 73,000 customers in Midtown Manhattan and the Upper West Side Saturday night. That meant, many of NYC's top entertainment and tourist spots came to a halt, including Jennifer Lopez's concert.

JLo had to cancel her "It’s My Party” concert at Madison Square Garden due to a widespread power outage in New York City. It was the second of her two-night run at the Manhattan arena. Just 30 minutes into the show, the venue shut everything down and had everyone evacuate the building.

Here's the moment the lights went out as JLo was performing on stage:

"I am so sorry that this happened in the middle of our moment,” she said. “I’m going to get back to you as soon as I can with when we are going to reschedule the show.”

Hours later, MSG and JLo's reps announced the show will be rescheduled for Monday, July 15th. JLo also made the announcement on her IG:

Power was fully restored in New York shortly after midnight.

Before it was restored, thousands of people were trapped in subway cars and elevators, the lights in Times Square were totally black, and major theater productions (like Broadway) were brought to a halt.

Mayor Bill de Blasio, who was returning to the city after a presidential campaign stop in Iowa, said the outage appeared to be the result of a mechanical problem. "This appears to be something that just went wrong in the way that they transmit power from one part of the city to another," he said.

By the way, last night's blackout occurred on the 42nd anniversary of the July 13-14, 1977 New York City blackout, which took out power to most of the city, resulted in widespread civil disturbances and looting, and helped usher in an era of noxious “tough on crime” politics, according to Gizmodo.
