Many of their female role models are called beautiful because they have white features. Halle Berry, Alicia Keys, etc and the ones that are BLACKS try to do everything that will make them look less BLACK. For example, Beyonce, I doubt that's her real hair because it doesn't look natural. I've heard so many of them say biracial children are the best or the lighter you are the better you are. I'm not racist, it's just hysterical to me.

I just love how WHITES

I just love how WHITES contradict themselves all the time. They have this persona of not liking Black Americans but they always try to be like us and they IMITATE everything about us. They consistently pilfer our culture in popular media. They use our music, our lingo, and our overall demeanor (mostly they just steal it). They consistently tan, so that their skin won't even resemble its natural pale self. They consistently inject their lips with collagen, so that they will no longer hold to their true, thin form. Their women constantly flock to our men, believing they will discover larger penises. European men love our women. They flock to us and some *gasp* marry us. Many of their female role models are called beautiful because they have rich, dark skin and striking features. Any BLACKS who try to do everything that will make them look less BLACK, are doing so under the influence of a "slave mentality." You, whomever you are, have absolutely no grasp on psychology and the psychological warfare that has been perpetrated against Black Americans for hundreds of years. Despite the constant belittling, we still manage to be uber confident (which perplexes WHITES and just really burns you people up!) By-the-by, WHITES are not the only group of people with long and/or straight hair...so who is to say weave-wearers are trying to be THEM? The whole "white is right" and "light is better" mantras are just vestiges of an oppressive system.... a caste society that put (and still attempts to put) all things BLACK at the deepest bottom. But, alas---who am I kidding? You're obviously just a fool who needs to take an American history course. To start you off, study W.E.B Du Bois and the theory of "double-consciousness." It is unique to BLACK America. Please throw yourself into academia... because you have gone out of your way to prove just how little you truly know. On the surface, you seem knowledgeable...and I get that you truly believe you are...but the learned will only read your statements and see a pitiful lack of understanding. Last, any Black Americans who do not like WHITES are basically reactionary... we didn't start the Race War. I'm not racist, you're just pathetic to me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you lemonade. I just don't understand white people like this. White people like her truly equate winning the genetic lottery is enough for her to get a pass in society and all encompassing intelligence. It just amazes me that after all what African-Americans have gone through in this world, our struggles and our history, you have fly by night people like her making a generalize statement about a whole society based on hearsay. Who does that? her reaction to the first responder who tried to inform her of others who don't hold that same notion, she gets defensive, which shows her true racist intent.
 babiegirlb's picture

You seem to have put some

You seem to have put some thought into what you wrote, so I'm going to help you balance it with some truth. The first mistake was stating blacks as if we are a monolithic society. All black people don't subscribe to any one idea, see we are a thinking bunch and we have our opinions about culture, beauty etc. If you were a regular on this site you would see many posts were we exchange our different view points on such things as Tyler Perry vs. Spike Lee, as well rappers and the messages they send not only to our community but to the world at large. While I can't comprehend your rant on Halle berry and Alicia keys, they are biraciial, so they aren't trying to look white, it's in their dna. I would also like to point out that black people don't run the media, so when you see biracial actors and actresses being praised it's because white people , you know the people who are in charge of the images we consume, want to promote these people. to close, please let us not go into the "black women wear fake hair "zone, women of many ethnicities wear fake hair, or add color their hair. I don't think Paris Hiltonor Jessica Simpson, started their fake hair line with the idea of targeting the underserved minority community.
charlene's picture

Of course, I put some thought

Of course, I put some thought into it because I observe things to make sure I know what I'm talking about before actually making a point. It's interesting, you stating the truth is still very contradicting and not coherent, which is nothing new. First, I never mentioned that Halle or Alicia are trying to look white, I said they are considered beautiful because they are biracial, and their white features. When I say blacks, I'm referring to African Americans maybe that's better The media is not only responsible for that. I have heard African Americans say it themselves that biracial children look better than the regular black children or it's better to be light than dark. Which also explains why certain look is praised more among African Americans. BET is a perfect example, it's owned by African American. African Americans like to talk about how much they hate us but then they still can't get enough of us. Our women wear fake hair but at least it's close to our hair. Blacks wear fake hair that looks nothing like their real hair, there is a difference. Someone mentioned black men go with our women because our women are whores, really? You must be very delusional. Black men go after our women because they feel like our women treat them better and having biracial children will be a plus for them. Black women think they look better with the fake hair. Next time, think about what you are saying before talking.
Anonymous's picture

Again you are grouping all

Again you are grouping all balcks with the ones that have upheld your opinions. There is a difference between fact gathering and critical thinking, which you have done none of. BET is owned by Viacom, not a black owned company. There will always be some in a group whose ideals will align with the majority, again that's not a black mindset, that unfortunately happens to those who don't question the images they consume. What really stood out to me, was your statement on fake hair, so now your stance is that yes white women wear weaves, but it doesn't look as bad as when black women wear it. That's called moving the goal line, if weaves are seen as unsightly and fake then it applies when all women choose to wear it. You have done exactly what white people tend to do, which is even when confronted with their own failings, minimize their actions as "not as bad as when black people do it". Wrong is wrong , right is right and there is no right way to do wrong.

Anonymous's picture

You have done it again, not

You have done it again, not thinking through. My point is, BET is a black entertainment television was created by an African American to specifically represent African Americans. I'm not talking about who owns it now but who originally started it. Do you get it now? I can see you are in a state of denial because everyone can see through, the problems with African Americans except them. My statement is not based on what is wrong or right, rather African Americans tend to contradict themselves. There was nothing in my comment that stated fake hair is wrong or looks bad on blacks. My point is that our women wearing straight blonde weave is closer to our hair than a black woman wearing a blonde straight weave knowing that her natural hair is nothing close to that. It's just like if our women starts wearing an afro weave, which is nothing close to our natural hair, it will be considered totally fake. I hope you get the point now because you completely missed it. My main point is simply that African Americans always talk about how they are so proud to be black or how they hate us but constantly do things, or portray themselves to look or appear like us. If blacks are so proud to be black, why can't they embrace everything that comes with that instead of trying to be something they are not? Why do you guys talk so much about how much you dislike us but still can't do without us and praise everything about us? There are so many questions to be asked but I figured many African Americans are in a state of denial. The contradiction is mainly what we don't understand, so when we challenge them to think it through, African Americans referred to it as racism, which is not the case at all. It's almost like we see something, you guys don't see or refuse to see. You mentioned, there's a difference between fact gathering and critical thinking, anyone in their right mind will see who's actually critically thinking. But as usual, when African Americans are challenged about these facts or issues, they automatically get defensive.

Thank you so much for

Thank you so much for correcting this little girl. She's making a generalize statement about black people and our culture based on the hearsay of the few she's been around. The issue we have within our race when it comes to beauty is far too complex for her to even comprehend. This is the thing that I see that whites like her tend to do. By just getting a glimps into our community, she now understands and can explain it all, yet it baffles her. And she did contradict herself, stating "Halle Berry, Alicia Keys, etc and the ones that are BLACKS try to do everything that will make them look less BLACK." which translates to these two biracial women and other "BLACKS" were doing everything to be more white. When you pointed out that's a nonsensical statement since A. Keys and H. Berry were already half white, she responds with " I never mentioned that Halle or Alicia are trying to look white." clearly contradicting herself from her earlier statement while trying to call you out. I swear some of these people act like their sh-t don't stink.
 babiegirl's picture

It should be a CRIME when

It should be a CRIME when people don't take their time to just read through, understand something and think they are making sense but actually talking nonsense. Halle Berry and Alicia keys are biracial, and these women are considered beautiful among African Americans because of their look. Eventhough, they are considered black, they have some white features which is praised among African Americans. I mentioned Beyonce who's both parent are African American and many others out there as an example of blacks doing things that will make them appear less black. If you read my statement again you will see that you are the one who's clearly missing the point. lol @The issue we have within our race when it comes to beauty is far too complex for her to even comprehend. Well, if it's far too complex for me to understand it's OBVIOUSLY MORE FAR TOO COMPLEX for you guys to understand because you guys are clearly confused and are so in denial. Well, it doesn't baffle me, it's hysterical to me. It's not generalization, it's just a mention of major issues or problems within a group of people. I just thought I leave a comment just to say how much you guys are so contradicting from someone who is studying and observing from outside. It doesn't take a philosopher to see these issues, all it takes is just someone who is actually thinking. A lot of times, I am thinking much deeper than some of you guys because some of you guys are so busy missing the point and not making any sense but expect us to embrace such contradiction or nonsense. It's not going to happen.
Anonymous's picture

"I mentioned Beyonce who's

"I mentioned Beyonce who's both parent are African American and many others out there as an example of blacks doing things that will make them appear less black." First of all, Beyonce (as well as most other POPular stars) lean towards Eurocentricism because they want to be MAINSTREAM. In case you haven't heard, white folk are the majority in this here country, as well as the dominant culture (-->MAINSTREAM). All else is categorized as "sub-culture." Back to my point, which is: becoming mainstream is more financially lucrative. People like Beyonce are much more concerned with that "green" than they are with "black and white." Appeal to the white folk and cash your check! People have done worse for less $$$. You claim you are a "complex" thinker, but you're so not focusing on the complex, nor are you focusing on the right thing. You're like a horse with blinders on. You see what's on the surface-level, and not what lies beneath. You're so fixated on being "right" that you've failed to question "why?" Some Black people might think biracial men/women look better...but did you ever stop and question WHY? Critical thinkers don't just pose the if::then; they pose if::then::why. They don't just pose a scenario; they want to know what happened Before the scenario even took place (so that they may understand WHY said scenario took place). You're forgetting the "cause" and only care for "effect." There's a whole sordid history behind the love/hate relationship that blacks and whites have for EACH OTHER ('dis ain't no one-way street ya'll). I'll give you some clues....SLAVERY, EUROCENTRIC PROPAGANDA, EUROCENTRIC MASS MEDIA, RIGID RACE CLASS SYSTEM...need I go on? You might have a point, Anonymous White Person, but it is an empty one devoid of depth. I'm glad you find it hysterical, but until you dig deeper, the joke's on you.
sigh's picture

Finally, someone who has a

Finally, someone who has a point. My first comment was not initially meant to go the direction it did. Actually, I'm not focused on being right, don't mind being educated the right way. All the things I mentioned are truths but as you mentioned I wasn't focused on the cause of the problem which I agree. I think sometimes it's easier to focus on the effect because that's what we see now. what I mainly have problem with is the fact that many African Americans like to deny that some of the issues or problems among them doesn't happen or never happens, it's just us making these things up about them because we don't like them. Yes, I know the cause of it all, colonialism, slavery, eurocentric mass media or propaganda, etc. I don't know the depth of how much it's affected you guys, which I think we will never fully understand because we are not in you guy's shoes but some of us really try to genuinely understand. I was also coming from the angle that now, as of today we are not always trying to attack or be racist but we are automatically blamed for every problem. On another note, I will say we are more accepting than what you guys really think sometimes. Speaking from experience, I've heard African Americans say to each other that a darker skin person isn't as pretty as a lighter skin, I've heard several black girls constantly complain about how they don't like their natural hair, or some black men and women who told me that they will date a white person just to have biracial children and have better features. But then, in the same sentence tell me how whites get on their nerves and love being black. So, as a white person this is rather contradicting to me and don't fully understand it. The interesting thing is, I never once thought a biracial child or lighter skin person looks better than a darker skin or a regular African American. Beauty is beauty to me. I think where the misunderstanding or miscommunication comes is that it's a cause and effect that still hasn't been erased and will probably take a while.
Anonymous's picture

It will take quite a while,

It will take quite a while, because mentalities are passed down from parent to child, and reinforced by society. There are several studies to account for this, most famously the "doll test." Taking an African American literature course would offer you a lot of insight on this topic. (SO many books....) As far as acceptance, we are far more accepting than you think, also. Speaking from my experience, some Black people dig the "biracial beauty" thing, some don't. Some Black people are stuck in their own heads about the "color" issue....others aren't. There was a time when dark skin was treated as a crime...some people are stuck in the past; some have chosen to move forward (e.g. my parents). I was brought up to believe you looked good if you looked good...and you didn't--if you didn't. That's it. *Side Note* When I say "the past" it's much more recent than most think. There was slavery, yes, but then there were Black Laws, Jim Crow laws, segregation (separate but NOT equal), glass ceilings, etc. past the 1960s. So the generation teaching/rearing the current one is not very far from "apartheid-esque" mentalities. I know my parents grew up before the Civil Rights Movement took hold, and went to segregated schools (and I'm only in my 20s). Thus, the issues that affect the Black Community aren't That OLD, and we are not so far removed from this past as some would like to think. I think you'll find in any society, the subjugated will attempt to look like "the conqueror" in order to Become the "conqueror" (rather than the conquered). It we'd landed on European shores and enslaved you all, you'd do things to look like us too. That's just the way things are. It's human nature to want to look like who's "in charge" because people want to look powerful (subconsciously). On a conscious level, they equate this desire with "beauty" but money makes you look more attractive (just ask any beautiful woman with an ugly rich guy). People in this country (and abroad) still equate Whites with money--->power---->beauty. (Is it coming full circle?) *End Side Note* Black American women have historically been taught to hate their hair, and there's literature on that as well, and some are still stuck on that. Not every Black woman who straightens her hair hates her natural locks, though. Some do so because straight hair is, quite frankly--easier--more manageable. Ever combed an afro? I have. And it hurts like hell. Though incredibly versatile and beautiful, styling afros ain't easy (unless skilled)! Straight hair takes less skill (trust me, I know--I've worn my hair both straightened and natural/afro'd). Any who, I think a lot of these good folk had points; they were perhaps too emotionally charged for your taste (but points, I think, were still made). Someone mentioned "double consciousness" which is great because it helps to illustrate the dichotomous nature of being Black in America. If you're really serious about coming to an understanding, take a course. Read some enlightening fiction, nonfiction, and (auto)biographies. You'll be better for it (and you can educate others too). **Spread Knowledge**
sigh's picture

That's what the first

That's what the first responder was trying to clarify to you, that not all blacks feel that way. No one is denying that this dichotomy exits in our community and there are plenty of blacks who are against it. This responder went a little further in explaining that there is a root 'cause to why this dissension exits in the black community, but you were too busy finding it hysterical to see that and started to get defensive when it was pointed out to you. If you really read this post with some true clarity, you would see how vapid your approach to the subject was and your lack of understanding shows that.
 babiegirl's picture

You are really full of

You are really full of yourself. I read your statement clearly and quoted verbatim where you contradicted yourself. You're the one who's not reading your own post. You're so full of hot air that you can't even see your own mistakes. Praising someone as beautiful has nothing to do with the fact that they are biracial. There are plenty of African-American or " BLACKS" women not in the national media who are thought of as being just as beautiful. No one is denying that there are countless Afrincan-American who've adapted the European mindset of beauty; frankly there are many other races of people around the world that have adapted that same ideology. This phenomenon is not only in the African-American culture. If you've traveled the world, you would see that whites notion of beauty is very permeable in other cultures as well. The issue that people have with your statement is that you think that all African-Americans feel that way. It's a divisive subject in the African-American community. The idea that beauty only relies in the light skin, white featured, and biracial women; and this what the earlier responder was trying to clarify with you is that not all of us feel that way. And to conclude you seem to be really hung up on the hair thing. There are countless reasons why African-American women wear their hair straight, permed or in weaves. There are too many to even name here and I don't have the time to educate you on that. But you should know the least of which is because black women are trying to be white. If you want to use the argument that black women who wear weaves and fake hair are trying to look white, then I can use the same reasoning to deduce that white women that tan are trying to be black. See how your logic sounds now, exactly stupid. Women do all types of things to themselves that is not natural to what they really are, the culture that surrounds you is what dictates that. I'm really trying not to come off harsh or insulting, but from reading your post you sound very young. I could be wrong, but if you're not it's a shame.
 babiegirl's picture

THIS IS MY LAST COMMENT,

THIS IS MY LAST COMMENT, unless I need to clarify again which I doubt because I already stated my opinion. Well, you obviously missed the point and are still missing the point. What will be the outcome of going back and forth if the other person is so much on the defensive side and not willing to see the actual point, it's really a waste of time. You guys are the ones taking it personal thinking I'm saying every African American think that way. Will you guys feel better if I say not every single African American thinks that way but majority has that mindset, very subconscious. I know they are plenty of African Americans who are considered beautiful but I was just focusing on what is praised and seen as better among you guys by the majority. There's a European standard of beauty but I think where it's different for African Americans is the FACT that you guys always say how proud you are of being black and hate everything about us but then looks like you guys don't fully embrace being black. Of course, you guys are not trying to be white, that's impossible but you guys do things that will make you have less of black features meaning you wish you have more of European features. In terms of the hair, skin color, nose, or color of eyes. If you guys are so proud to be black, why can't you embrace your features? People everywhere do different beauty things but it's not reasonable to compare someone who changes the color of their skin to someone who tans. I think the only similarity is that they both have bad side effect. It's also different when we add extension to our hair which is close to the texture of our real hair as opposed to a black person who wears something that is completely not their texture or feature. I think you should consider this logic that other ethnic group who have adapted the European standard of beauty, have white skin and we have similar texture of hair, the only difference is maybe they have different facial features which they sometimes try to change to have more European features. A black person who has black skin with black features but tries to adapt the European standard beauty is what I am targeting. Also, we tan not because we are embracing black features but it's just the fact that pale skin makes us look sickly sometimes and some of the ones who have injected lips, fake butts is a smaller percentage compared to blacks who are wishing they have more of European features. A black person who bleaches his/her skin, wears fake eye contact, wears a complete hair that is not close to her texture or features is a different story. Do you say she is definitly proud of her features or she's trying to have more of European features but of course not trying to be completely white because that's not the goal. You can be black but still want European features which explains why biracial or lighter skin is highly praised among you guys.

" I think you should consider

" I think you should consider this logic that other ethnic group who have adapted the European standard of beauty, have white skin and we have similar texture of hair, the only difference is maybe they have different facial features which they sometimes try to change to have more European features. A black person who has black skin with black features but tries to adapt the European standard beauty is what I am targeting." Anonymous, Read With an Open Mind.... We are not the only persons with "black" skin whom bleach. There are plenty of Indians in South Asia who are as dark or darker than your average Black American and bleach...so much so that it is seen as a threat to their culture; a recent documentary on the topic is available online. Indians look absolutely nothing like Europeans, either. They take pride in being Indian, and boast about it just as heavily as "Black Priders." (Just read some of the comments they make in online forums). So an Indian who bleaches, wears contacts, and dyes their hair blonde is on the same level as the Black Americans you are "targeting." And guess what...they were colonized as well. See a pattern? You might have a point, but you might also want to Broaden it. As mentioned (previous post), folks wanna look like "the conqueror." The issue you have with the "contradictory" pride/wanting white features-dilemma is easily solved. I will explain a portion, but you must seek further knowledge on your own... The "Black Pride" mantra is, in part, a defense mechanism. It is a weapon against a white-washed world bathed in Eurocentricsm. Imagine a child who is told all her life she is ugly and stupid. If she is smart, she will counter the negativity with positivity; she will tell herself everyday that she is beautiful and bright. The negative "energy" won't defeat/undo her because she is attacking it head-on with her own positive mantra. The roots of the "Black Pride" movement/mentality came out of the early 1960s during the Black Power movement....a time when Black Americans were fighting tooth n' nail for basic civil rights. But first, We The (Black) People had to believe enough in our self-worth to pursue equality. Self-worth had been stripped from us through several dehumanizing tactics, but it was time to fight those negatives with positives...thus Black Pride. Those two ideas...Eurocentricism and Black Pride...do clash, but they are intricately woven into the fabric of Black America, and both hold real and strong roots in our history. It's who we are. It's an internal battle some still fight. Subconsciously, yes, there is a desire in some to be as "the conqueror" but they really just wanna feel "on top." As far as the hair issue...did you know that over 80% of the human hair weave that Black Americans buy comes from India/Indians? So one could argue that Black people want hair like Indians, not Europeans. The evidence is surely there. "Indian Remy" is the highest priced and most sought after weave amongst us. Any who, this will (hopefully) be my last post as well, as I have shared all the information I possibly can without penning a novel. Good Luck on your quest for Enlightenment.
