VOGUE BLACK+VOGUE CURVY Hit The Net

Vogue Italia took it upon themselves to launch a new website geared for black fashion: Vogue Black. The site is focusing (not completely exclusively but mainly) on black icons of the fashion and modeling world--past and present. And all things Vogue that would appeal to the black fashionista or fashionisto. Currently they are featuring fab chicks like Grace Jones, Tyra Banks, and others. Vogue Curvy was just launched as well. It's focusing on the curvier (and by curvier we mean the other standard of curvy) side of the uber fashion savvy folks. And the icons and celebs who fit that bill as well. Indeed these sites are making web history (and fashion history in general) in their own rights. But are we feelin' these?

JMO122, I hear what your saying about bringing everyone together. But these are businesses. People have different tastes and interests, and they seek out things that interest them. The same way I don't go to Lane Bryant, is the same reason I don't read

SOMEONE NEEDS TO TELL VOGUE

SOMEONE NEEDS TO TELL VOGUE THAT THEY CAN KEEP THIER SHI*. WE DONT WANT IT AND WE SHOULD NOT SUPPORT IT. THERE IS ONLY ONE VOGUE AND BLACKS DESERVE TO BE ON IT.
BrittBeauty3's picture

WHAT THE HELL IS BLACK

WHAT THE HELL IS BLACK FASHION. WE DESERVE TO BE IN MAINSTREAM VOGUE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. BLACK MODELS LOOK TEN TIMES BETTER THAN WHITE MODELS AND THATS THE REAL ISSUE.
BrittBeauty3's picture

I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY WE HAVE

I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY WE HAVE TO GET EXCITED ABOUT THINGS THAT SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE. DONT SEPERATE THESE BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMEN FROM THE WHITE MODELS ON VOGUE. I THINK PEOPLE ARE AFRAID THAT THESE BLACK MODELS WITH CONQUER THE FASHION INDUSTRY AND MAKE THESE WHITE MODELS LOOK LIKE TRASH. BUT OH WELL, THEY ARE TRASH COMPARED TO THESE GORGEOUS BLACK MODELS.

Just gotta say i've alway

Just gotta say i've alway been a fan of Grace Jones. She and Ms Campbell are so fab!! Dont like the need for segregating, women of color and "curvy" women should be featured on the original then there would be no need for "other" issues/site.

I looked @ both of the

I looked @ both of the sites... but why did I see these white women rockin huge big afros??? Beneath the photos, it says Afro Love... as if they know all about natural blk hair! Danm.... they want to steal tht too...

I agree with JMO122! My thing

I agree with JMO122! My thing is if you keep seperating blacks (BET, Black VOGUE) you are not solving a problem of discrimination, but rather furthering it!! What about everyone else? Asians? Hispanics? Why not start a new mag that encompasses all instead of once again, segregating things further.
Serene's picture

PLEASE GET IT TOGETHER!!

PLEASE GET IT TOGETHER!! when will we find other things to complain about? how is it that on a gossip site segregated to only BLACK information we have people complaining about media segregation? do you know how ridiculous you sound? why aren't you on TMZ right now if you don't like media segregation? get a grip. and as far as bringing Nuclear Wintour (Vogue editor and Chief Anna Wintour) into this, did you not read the description? This website was started by Vogue Italia which is a completely different monster, run by a completely different person! and it's a beautiful contribution that highlights OUR beauty, which is something this website your on is supposed to do but everytime I'm on here or in the comments all we seem to be doing is tearing each other down and making fun of each other, ladies get a grip, and get over yourselves, I will never feel like a FOOL for reading and subscribing to Vogue magazine and nor will I apologize for buying the first ever magazine to feature exclusively black models like Vogue Italia did a couple of years ago...damn I wish we would stop complaining about every little thing!!!!!

BUT IM FEELIN THE VOGUE BLACK THEY SHUD MAKE IT INTO A MGAGZINE
brooklyn gyal's picture

I'm not feeling either one of

I'm not feeling either one of them. If something is Vogue than it's Vogue. What is there the real Vogue and then Vogue for a black girl or Vogue for a fat girl? So that means that that's as Vogue as a curvy or black woman can get? These mags need to realize that there are all kinds that make up the world, with those they choose to feature actually being in the minority in both size and skin tone. I would never buy a mag that panders down to me like that and from reading this thread a lot of people feel the same. EPIC FAIL on both.

Are they copying the French

I hate that in 2010 a website

I hate that in 2010 a website has to be created to show minority and curvier women some attention. Im happy Vougue Italia is giving them some shine tho. Ill check more of it out later.
Ms Busy Body's picture

I agree with JMO122!!!!

I agree with JMO122!!!! Co-sign all the way! Why not just showcase black women, women of color in general and curvy girls in regular vouge magazines. Sorry but this is one of the few reasons why I don't support vouge or hardly read it because they are keeping up the old standards of fashion beauty
binky's picture

They want to tap into that

They want to tap into that black money...hahaha....take the ESSENCE and EBONY money. There is a reason for everything and it's usually about money.
Team RihRih's picture

why does it have to be Vogue

why does it have to be Vogue - Black? I would much rather VOGUE just incorporate more ethnic models and fashion figures into regular VOGUE then creating a separate publication. It's sort of "racist" within itself, as to say ethnic fashion figures aren't 'good' enough to be included in the original VOGUE. That's just my $0.02.
Kris's picture

I likey!!!! Vogue Italia

I likey!!!! Vogue Italia Editor in Chief Franca Sozzani might wanna get Anna Wintour on the phone and give her some tips
Blaque's picture

NO, we are not feeling these!

NO, we are not feeling these! Why can't they just mainstream ethnic and curvy women?! Why must they maintain the vestige of the slim and white global minority?!

JMO you have a point... I

JMO you have a point... I like their site, hopefully it blossoms even more. I know its due to all the flack that Vogue has been getting but lets be real, they will never incorporate more than 10 African Americans in the regular Vogue. The fashion industry regardless of how "Progressive" others make it seem is still embedded with racism and downright horrible views of the body.

for someone who is trashing

for someone who is trashing opinions...u started off your comment by saying "I THINK"... how dare you as a HUMAN BEING tell someone to STFU jus for stating their opinion. whether you were referring your comment to me or not, its foolish for you to say that. y wud u come to a BLOG site that is built on people STATING THEIR OPINIONS. YBF wouldn't exist had there not been a TREMENDOUS number of people feeling a need to state their opinion. This whole DO SOMETHING behavior you have is GREAT, but don't tell other people to STFU in the process... talking about it (believe it or not) is 75% of the battle. Nobody will change anything if no one is talkn about it... Sorry if I came at you in some kind of way, but I just really hate when people put each other down for stating their OWN opinion. its ignorant, mean, obnoxious, and down right close-minded. I am a well educated black woman who has been put down countless times, and I encourage my people to stop putting each other down. Again I apologize, but I really hate when people do that.
JMO122's picture

I have to agree with JMO122.

I have to agree with JMO122. I am very happy that they want to recognize Blacks and Curvy woman. But why separate them? As if beautiful Black women and beautiful curvy women wouldn't fit in with the regular magazine.
MusicisLovee's picture

JMO122, I totally understand

JMO122, I totally understand where your coming from but the truth of the matter is that unfortunately though things have progressed discrimantion is still very much alive and well. So I think we have to start somewhere and maybe folks will take notice until then I'm soooo excited about this!!

To Island Chic, Not sure if

To Island Chic, Not sure if you live in the DC area or not but Desiree Rogers has had QUITE a few Snafu's since she's been here..the gate crashers being the least of her mistakes. Just another classic case of the Obamas trying to hook too many of their friends up.

I read YBF faithfully, but

I read YBF faithfully, but this is my first time feeling compelled to make a comment. This is ridiculous! It's 2010 and I'm tired of this! If they think Curvy and Black is beautiful then why not incorporate it into the regular Vogue? JM0122 you're not alone...I agree with you 100%!

Thats's bull. I can't stand

Thats's bull. I can't stand the way Anna Wintour and her racist behind continue to get away with covert racism. If you're a black woman that reads Vogue you are a straight fool. This woman has cracked jokes on black beauty since she came on the scene and people have the nerve to say Vogue is a fashion bible. Whatever!
T2's picture

I think the site may not be

I think the site may not be live yet as in they are still building it. And if you don't like it build your own site. Or stfu. Everyone has an opinion. DO something!

*What I'm about to say is not

*What I'm about to say is not related to this story, but I just can't help myself* STOP THE PRESSES!!! I just got an update from Politico on my iPhone that White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers is stepping down! It appears that the pressure from the gate crashers in November lead to this :-( What the hell!!! I liked her :-( Why am I convinced that the rightwing is behind this? First Vann Jones, now this...

I kind of wish people

I kind of wish people wouldn't seperate things all the time. Its like when Black people want representation, a BLACK magazine comes out. When thicker women want more representation, a THICK WOMEN magazine comes out. Why can't their be equal opportunities in the same magazines, and not seperate us all the time? Why can't there be white, blacks, asian, latina, skinny, thick, short, and tall in one magazine. Its like when we complain they say, "ok...we give u your own thing. we still don't want to put you in our magazine!" I don't like that. I am sorry. Maybe its just me, but the world isn't seperate, so why seperate people in media?
