Tracee Ellis Ross LEAVES BET's "Reed Between The Lines"

Despite BET's "Reed Between The Lines" getting picked up for a second season, star Tracee Ellis Ross is officially OUT. Deets inside...

More shakeups in starring roles at BET. Tracee Ellis Ross, who plays Malcolm Jamal Warner's wife on sitcom "Reed Between The Lines," said today she will not be returning. This is interesting as the show revolves around her relationship and family with Malcolm's character.

According to the L.A. Times:

Ross in a statement said that "Reed Between the Lines" was a show "I believe in and care about" and that there was a "chance" she might return at some point. Loretha Jones, BET's president of original programming and news, called Ross "an amazing talent," adding, "We wish her nothing but the best and hope to work with her again in the future."

When the second season launches next July, the couple will be separated. Carla, a psychologist, has moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles to take a "dream job" and hopes the family will join her. But Alex, a university professor and stay-at-home dad, doesn't feel a move is right for the children and chooses to stay in Atlanta.

Similar to Tia Mowry's exit on "The Game," it will be interesting to see how the show stays afloat without its main center character. No word exactly on why Tracee left.

First of all, MJW character

First of all, MJW character does have a job....He's a college professor, who has online classes, which is why he can stay at home and home school their youngest daughter, Alex. Secondly, the show was originally set in New York, don't know why they changed that at all? Thirdly, Tracee makes no sense to me, but I guess there's more to this story that we don't know....

It's really funny that

It's really funny that whenever there is a show on tv that boasts positivity people get on here talking about it sucks. Well the rest of us would like more channels to show positive family broadcasting.

It's disappointing that she

It's disappointing that she won't be back. Besides the positivity on the show the next best thing was the chemistry between her and Malcom Jamal Warner and the children. I can't image how the show can go on without her.

I agree with Brandon Lewis,

I agree with Brandon Lewis, they should have brought Malcolm on as her new love and continued Girlfriends. It was a strong ensemble cast and would have survived if Joan had left in the future... they could have brought Toni Childs back! As for this show, they should let it go or completely start ova. It makes no sense for the mom to leave ALL of her kids with the no job having dad, I mean stay at home dad. He could have easily moved his stay at home job to CA. The audience isn't dumb! It definitely sends a bad message... career woman chooses job over her caring husband and young kids.

I hope the writers/producers

I hope the writers/producers aren't stupid enough to leave the older kids on the show w/Tracee off since they're not his bio kids! The concept of the show was good but no chemistry between characters. Recast and start over...not too many people watched anyway, no one would know :)

I don't really like the show

I don't really like the show but it went from a loving couple to a separated couple this was suppose to be a positive show about a black family that are actually together, I think they should just cancel it honestly!

WTF?!! BET DONE LOST THEIR DAMN MINDS!!! Lol. No but seriously, how do they keep getting rid of the main characters from their shows and expect the little viewers they have left to keep watching? Last I checked BET wasn't the business, they need to just CANCEL that whole damn network *In Tamar Braxton's voice* Boom!

Good riddance. The show was painful to watch. Tracee and Malcolm had no chemistry. Maybe if they pick the right lead the show might get interesting for Season 2.

What? I liked the show and

What? I liked the show and watched every episode (especially for Tracee's fashion). The whole premise of the show was to show a loving blended family with working professionals. How are you going to separate the family? Will not last.

BET can't do nothing right

BET can't do nothing right when it comes to keeping a cast together on a sitcom. It's one thing when you lose a supporting cast member but not the MAIN damn character. I would suggest BET get into making reality shows, but that damn College Hill and Hell Date with all the bad lighting and shakey cameras was TERRIBLE!! B.E.T. = Breaking-up Everything Television!!
