All this talk about "LOOKS"...what ever happened to pure talent? I see the standards for excellence in music have changed rapidly over the years as we approach this new era of brand marketing and instant success due to overexposure and gorilla marketing. After all, we lost Michael and Whitney and so many more legends that contributed to music in a big way, so there’s not much else to look forward to these days. You never hear about the real talent these days, just the pretty, popular people making a fool of themselves on social media. With all these legends leaving the music world, and the world of entertainment in general, I wonder about the state of music and the state of entertainment. In a time where the number of “hits” an artist makes is more important than their showmanship, talent, musical abilities etc. something has to be said about the lack of appreciation for REAL artist. Oh and the number of hits could be anything; anywhere between the number of hits on twitter to the number of hits on google ads, as long as you’re a trending topic, and have 20 million twitter followers, you’re IT! Which brings me to my next point. It’s become so apparent, how non talented Rihanna is, that it’s hard to argue otherwise anymore. So much so, that every time there is a post about her, her followers rush to the blog(s) post to angrily defend her against some non-existent, unconfirmed, feud between her and another female artist. They can’t defend her non-existent talent so they attack other artists who are talented. Her followers have no legitimate reason to support her other than she’s anti-good (hence why they hate and attack Rita Ora or Beyonce). (Insert Beyonce & Rita attacks here) And to that I say, to the Rita Ora and Beyonce fans, everyone’s work and talent should speak for itself. There is no need to defend what we already know, which is that Beyonce and Rita possess more vocal ability/talent in their pinky fingers than Rihanna possess in one tweet! It amazes me how Rihanna was able to cat-walk her way into the realm of music’s finest when she possess zero talent. And for those of you who need the distinction, what Rihanna displays is potential. She should be up to par by now, shouldn’t she be? This means that the game has changed because no other artist could get away with that, and she’s a game changer so I’ll give her credit for that. Rihanna has a great career both presently and ahead of her but where is the TALENT behind it all? Evelyn Lozada is the breakout star of VH1's BBW's but her growing celebrity is no indication of any real talent, unless being a known groupie is a talent. But then again, like I said, entertainment is changing for the worst. Rihanna is pretty, fashionable and has a boat load of hits, she has the "IT" factor, I GET IT, BUT where is the talent?????? The fact remains: Rihanna cannot sing. Rihanna has zero stage presence; Rihanna does not possess an ounce of talent; unless beauty, personality and having biracial features are considered talents. Choreography can be taught and there are stylist, publicist, managers, creative consultants, “teams” and “camps” that assist in making superstars like Rihanna. But I bet if you were to axe the glam squad, the endorsement gigs, the gimmicky, contrived bad-girl trademark and the chris brown incident and fashion, away from distracting onlookers, she would be just another black girl.
