R.I.P. Chuck Brown--Godfather Of Go-Go

After a long battle with a list of health issues, the Godfather of Go-Go music, Chuck Brown, died today at age 75. Details on the sad news inside...

Chuck Brown is synonymous with Washington D.C.'s Go-Go sound as he's credited as being the creator of the original music using the beat. The repetitive funky percussion vibe can still be heard in current music like Ameriie's "1 Thing," Beyonce's "Crazy In Love," and more.

As the heart and soul of the D.C. music scene, North Carolina native and D.C. raised Chuck has been blowing up the charts since the 70's and his song "Bustin' Loose." And in recent years has performed less frequently but ALWAYS blew up any concert where he made an appearance.

Mr. Brown died today at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, according to his manager, of complications from pneumonia & sepsis.

Sad day for music. R.I.P. Chuck.

Being from PG County, Chuck

Being from PG County, Chuck was like our Michael Jackson..Like a previous generation's Elvis Presley. He was an IMPORTANT person. With loosing him, we have lost a part of DC/PG/VA that is irreplacable. I remember kids bringing their older brothers' Chuck PA tapes to elementary school to show off and share. He was a positive guy from start to finish...never spoke a negative word that I know of. My favorite line: "I wanna see people, not signs". He wasn't ok with set trippin, repping your block, etc. He wanted everybody to blend and party. It didn't matter if you were white, black, rich, or poor. Chuck wanted us all to party together. My mother who is 65 was

My mother who is 65 was partying with Chuck, Lil Benny, Essence etc...when she was in her 20's, so go-go has been in my blood since birth. If you've never been to a go-go before, GO! It's a party like no other. Back in the day late 80's early 90's is when go-go was the best. The bands now are good, but the old bands were beast!

Growing up in DC, Chocolate City, in high school irt was all about the go-go - every Monday in homeroom it was about who was at "The Black Hole"...lol Chuck Brown was a legend and most of all a great musician - RIP Chuck - A lot of memories.

My heart is really heavy this

My heart is really heavy this evening. Chuck Brown's music was a part of my life and my parents lives for so long. "Uncle Chuck" was not only a treasure to the DMV, but he was also a treasure to the music world in general. He could turn anything into a go-go song and make it sound damn good. My girls and I are gonna have a tribute to "Uncle Chuck" at my house on Friday night. We're gonna get some good food, some good wine, and crank up his music and rejoice in the good memories. Thank you God for gracing us with Mr. Brown's music and his presence. He will be missed.

D.C., some parts of Maryland,

D.C., some parts of Maryland, and Northern Virginia are all within the same vicinity. Many people work and leave in all three. You can be in all three with in 15 to 20 minutes of each other. It really doesn't matter!

Unfortunately that (D.C. residents) will soon be all white people from the suburbs. All the bands play and live in Maryland now anyway. Honestly adn seriously, I think we do represent where we're from in most cases. However, go-go music is a staple in the Metropolitan area - Southern Maryland, DC and Northern VA. If it wasn't bands would have JUST played in D.C.- which would have been a shame. Go-go belongs to everybody in our area because most of us grew up listening to it and going to see bands wherever they played. And each part of the Metropolitan area has it's own personality and style.
