Rohan Marley Is ENGAGED...To His Model Boo Isabeli Fontana

Artist Rohan Marley--Lauryn Hill's ex and father to 5 of her kids--just got engaged to his girlfriend of about a year, model Isabeli Fontana. The latest development in this alleged love triangle inside...

39-year-old Rohan Marley has made his reggae love official for his 28-year-old Brazilian model girlfriend Isabeli. The twosome, who hit up the 2012 Met Gala last week (above pic), has confirmed their engagement to the Brazilian newspaper, Terra.

Last year, Rohan denied being the father of Lauryn's 6th child--even though many believed they were still very much together in private--and started dating Isabeli while Lauryn was pregnant.

Now, Isabeli has confirmed the two are headed to the alter...in Ethiopia--the birthplace of Rastafarian culture...at some point in the near future. Isabeli told the newspaper:

"Rohan told me that we must return to their origins so that the marriage will last forever."

Oh....ok. This will be Rohan's second marriage (his first was to his college girlfriend) and Isabeli's third marriage. Yes, third. She has two sons--1 from each previous marriage.

According to Huff Post:

Marley, a former college football player, now runs a coffee company and has a line of headphones. Fontana has modeled for Victoria's Secret, Escada, Dolce & Gabbana, Revlon, Ralph Lauren and others, as well as serving as the face of Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb fragrance. She also appeared in the 2011 Pirelli calendar, and she recently received waaaay too much self-tanner in that now-infamous H&M bikini ad. The couple recently attended the 2012 Met Gala together.

I'm at a complete loss as to why everyone assumes that because this man has asked another woman for her hand in marriage that he has somehow done Lauryn Hill wrong and that she is somewhere crying her eyes out filled with regret and shame. It might be that Rohan and Lauryn never married because she didn't want to marry him. Maybe she wanted children and not a traditional marriage. Not every woman wants or needs to marry to have the life that she wants. Considering that I've not once heard Lauryn Hill lament the life she has, we (collectively) need to stop projecting onto her how "awful" this news must be to her. It's not like Rohan held her hostage and forcibly impregnated her. She made a conscious choice to enter into and remain in that relationship and for the time she was in it, nothing even remotely suggests that she was unhappy. Your query calls into question her sanity which is fair question, but also separate and apart from the throngs arguing that Rohan did her wrong. Women have children for all sorts of reasons -- a strong desire to leave a legacy, they just want to be a mom or they need someone to love and are filling that need by having children. I don't know what would possess a woman to have six children but then again, my frame of reference is from the standpoint of a middle class upbringing not that of a very wealthy woman like Lauryn Hill who can afford all of the assistance she requires to make rearing six children not very difficult at all. I have a couple of friends who have limited the sizes of their family solely because they have to consider the cost of child rearing and college. If they and their spouses didn't have to worry about finances, they too would have five or six kids. Let's not forget, this whole idea of having one or two kids is historically speaking, a rather new concept. The question of whether not or not it is sane to do so is part and parcel of the question of can a family afford to do so.

I seem to remember a certain Steve Harvey a BLACK man lamenting that women who don't require certain relationship commitments from their men will never get them. Lauryn Hill never required Rohan to "man up" and make their union official so she just kept popping out babies and hoping for the best. Rohan considered himself "the man" cuz he has a ton of babies running around with his name, but he knew Lauryn had to personal standards for herself so there was nothing for him to live up to. Steve Harvey – once said “black women need to have standers when in a relationship” A lot of black women don’t have goals when in a relationship – they tend to settle with what is giving to them.
