Bobby Brown Speaks Out About Whitney Houston's Death On "The Today Show," Said He Didn't Do Narcotics Before Meeting Whitney

For the first time since Whitney Houston's death, we're hearing her ex-husband Bobby Brown speak out in his own words. His response to being blamed for figuratively killing Whitney and how his current fiancee feels about their past love, inside...

In part 1 of this morning's Matt Lauer interview with Bobby Brown (above), the singer spoke out in response to those who blame him for introducing his ex-wife Whitney Houston to drugs.

Bobby maintained that he didn't even do drugs before meeting Whitney (aside from weed and alcohol) and when he was introduced to it in their relationship, his addictive personality allowed for things to get out of control.

Matt asked Bobby what he could have done differently when he saw Whitney spiraling out of control, and Bobby responded:

"I coulda done something different, you know to -- ensure that she had a longer life. But ... you have to want it, you know?"

He said they were so in love and so deep into their addiction that the first season fo "Being Bobby Brown" was a wake up call. Their drug use was affecting their relationship and their daughter. And they saw just how they looked int he public eye. Whitney refused to do another season, and the couple also filed for divorce the following year in 2006.

Bobby says he had so much love for her and never would want to hurt her:

"My fiancee knows how I felt about that woman," Brown said. "My kids know how I feel ... how I felt about Whitney. It's not a secret, you know? I was in love with her deeply."

Bobby revealed he found out that Whitney died from his New Edition groupmate Ralph Tresvant while they were on stage.

I believe that they were both into drugs before they met and there was NO WAY that they didn't know about the others drug use before they got married because they dated for at least two years prior to marriage....It's a fact addictive spirits gravitate toward one another. They BOTH had burdens she was not innocent and neither was he....I love Whitney for keeping it real and I would rather Bobby keep it real too. I refuse to believe Bobby introduced Whitney to drugs. The way Whitney was addicted to it, it came from her prior to meeting Bobby. Nobody can turn you into something if you were not already interested, or doing it. Whitney Houston was in the high of her career, and she turned to drugs to keep up with it. Whitney was her own demon, and people need to stop blaming others for their problems. Take responsibility.

Everyone is on here talking like they knew Whitney and Bobby personally. Only two people know the truth and one of them is no longer here. Most people on drugs tend to increase their drugs use/drug of choice the longer they are on it. Some go from weed to pills to coke and so on. Some people get their first hit of crack next thing you know they selling their bodies for it. Bobby may have gotten high in his own way but having access to Whitney kind of money made it worse and there was no one to stop it because they encouraged each other.

I think the reason people

I think the reason people keep blaming Bobby for Whitney's demise is because the public at large did not see the addiction and her personal demons until she got with him. Only people in her personal circle may have been aware of her drug use and probably at that time is was done sparingly. Her image was very guarded, by her family, her record label and Clive Davis. In the age of no twitter, blogs or youtube; celebrities had a much better chance at keeping those things secret. Unfortunately for Bobby, already having this bad boy image, once they got together and the drug use became rampant, her good girl image and career was destroyed; so it was easy to point to him as the blame. I don't think it matters whether or not she introduced him to drugs or that she was already a habitual user; what will be remembered clearly is that her life started to fall apart after she got with him. I don't think that's fair to Bobby, but that will be his burden to carry in the relationship when their story is told.

I completely agree with you. I loved Whitney Houston. I grew up in her era. Its hard to believe that she could have been on drugs then but I refuse to believe that Bobby had that much of an influence on her. We all have a decision to make. However, he will carry that burden around for the rest of his life. They blamed him while they were married, when they divorced, and they will continue to blame him while she rest in peace.

People, People.....Whitney

People, People.....Whitney Houston (whom most of us loved and adored) was a woman who had a "persona" that perpetuated GOODNESS, PURITY, POP PRINCESS; however if any of you would take the time to actually listen to the words that came out of WHITNEY HOUSTON's own mouth during the Oprah Interview you will find that she said: 1. I'm my worst enemy 2. Bobby was a drunk (she never said he was a drug addict) 3. She started using before Bobby. Lastly, none of us knew them personally and therefore every opinion is biased and based on information portrayed by the media. However, drugs can ruin any "love affair" and we can’t negate what they had as if it wasn’t real. Whitney chose her path and the results of her choices took her life! BOBBY BROWN is NOT to blame for her demise and here's why.....Whitney was strong, rich and powerful and had the common sense to not include Bobby in her will even though she was "in love" with this man. She was sent to rehab many times and NEVER finished a treatment program. A good friend of mine worked at A&R at Arista and witnessed all the work the record company did to try to get Whitney clean. Interventions were staged by her mother and ladies and gentleman it's a choice! How many of you have been in bad relationships or marriages that ended? Do you blame your ex for all of your current failures in your life or do you take responsibility for your own actions and keep it moving? I'm sure their marriage was a hot mess....hell we witnessed most of the "train wreck" on their reality show, but make no mistake about it. As adults we must be responsible for our own actions. We all must answer to God for what we've done in our own lives. We are born alone and we die alone! You can't make a grown person do something they don't want to do. Let me say this….Where were all of the positive people in Whitney’s life? Her mom said they talked every day! What about her best friend, Gospel recording artist Cee Cee Winans’ and her spiritual sister and friend Pastor/Singer Kim Burrell. Did you miss her funeral? She had half of the best preachers and singers on the planet…yet none of them could stop her from doing cocaine and getting high. Do you honestly think Bobby Brown had more power than all of them combined? Whitney Houston's death was tragic, but I think blaming Bobby Brown (directly or indirectly) for her death is just plain unreasonable and misdirected. Whitney filed for divorce 7 years ago and kept all her millions. She had time to heal, re-build, re-new and regroup.....her addiction killed her voice, her career and ultimately her soul. Her addiction killed her....NOT Bobby Brown!

You're damn right about that. Ultimately you choose your own path and addicition is something only the ADDICT can beat. Even if they dragged her to rehab kicking and screaming she still would've turned back to drugs. People don't make the choice to get clean until they're truly tired of living their lives that way. And bottom line is Bobby couldn't have helped her if he himself was also an addict. He struggle with the same demons when it came to weed and alcohol, so how could he have pulled whitney out of her own mess?

CLAP CLAP CLAP, very well said! She had the best of the best in the religious sector and they were unable to help her. She appeared to be a fiercely independent woman, doing things her own darn way, Bobby couldn't have helped her if he wanted to. He's trying real hard not to throw her under the bus, but I'm sure there are some things he could say to bring all of this to light, but his REAL love for her is making him respect her in death. Good job Bobby, I never ever thought you were responsible and I could see that she loved you and you loved her.

I loved Whitney dearly and I never blamed Bobby for any of this. Everyone makes their own choices in life, unfortunately hers were choices that took her from life. Still no matter what, she will always be loved! Rest in Peace Whitney!

For the person who said that Eddie and Whitney didn't dated. They in fact dated and Whitney herself said it! As a matter of fact just before they broke up, Eddie Bobby was at a party together. Trust me I am a very long fan since 84 so u need to check your facts.
