Jennifer Hudson TAKES THE STAND In The "Hudson Family" Murder Trial

In Chicago this morning, famed Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson bravely took the stand as the first witness in the trial of William Balfour, who's accused of murdering the singer's mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew. Get the details inside....

In the murder trial of William Balfour, the prosecution wasted no time in setting it off as they called Weight Watchers spokeswoman and famed actress Jennifer Hudson as their first witness.

William, the estranged husband of Jen's sister Julia, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 57-year-old Darnell Donerson, 29-year-old Jason Hudson and 7-year-old Julian King, back in October 2008.

"I told her over and over again to not marry him," Jennifer said on the stand. "We did not like how he treated her."

She then talked about the last time she saw her family.

"It was my mother, my brother, my sister and my dog," Jennifer said as she described a surprise visit the family made to her home.

"I was so surprised. The whole family is here. "That was the last time I saw them. Thank God I had the opportunity."

In addition to first-degree murder, Balfour will have to defend himself against charges of home invasion, aggravated kidnapping, residential burglary and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges in the trial which is expected to last 4 weeks.

Well I do think that the defendant William Balfour committed the crime. If it was someone else as others have insinuated, then it is a more likely scenario that they would have tried to extort money from Jennifer Hudson. However it is clear that this crime was committed out of spite and vindictiveness by an unhinged individual. I mean, who could shoot a little boy in the head, let alone adults? It is a really sick crime and William Balfour appears to be the perpetrator. I don't know if it's because JHud is a superstar that people think that this cannot be a case of domestic violence. Crimes like this happen fairly often all around the world. In some areas it is so commonplace it barely gets a mention in the news.

Balfour was involved but there is one other person fully aware of what went down, and who the players are behind this ....and her name is JULIA! This was a hit and when you play STREET Games the outcomes are never fair. I believe that there was a debt to be paid and the family paid the price. I also believe that the innocent boy was killed because he either recognized them or with the sensationalism of the crime they realized they had gone to far with this and had to kill him to get rid of the evidence. Balfour is the fall guy...he might have provided them with valuable info on the schedule of the family, how to enter the house etc. but he did not pull the trigger (he is as equally responsible...but he did not pull the trigger). I also believe Jen knew her family ( brother and sister) were into some trifling shit. It is what it is! We all have family members that are questionable...we are aware of it but there is nothing we can do. I am just glad Jen did come to her family's home for a visit that fatal day...because who knew if they would have kidnappred her of killed her. I will go one step further and say that whoever did this has threatened to kill Balfour's family that is why he hasn't dropped dime on them. Given what they've done already ...he KNOWS they will kill his. Jen be strong! Julia is going to have live with the guilt of knowing the TRUTH...for the rest of her lives.

This story has always baffled me. For some reason I am not convinced the suspect they have is the actual killer. When the story first hit it came out that Jen's brother was selling drugs from the mothers home. This changes alot of things. Any buyer/addict/ had access to the home and probably had some scheme to extortion money from them as they were Jens brother/family. it didnt go well so that person shot and killed the brother and mum.I think taking the little innocent nephew was a ploy to get money.When they realised it is getting too much they cold heartedly ended that boys life because they didnt get what they wanted and had gone to far to turn back. It never ever made sense to me that a father would kill his own son and not harm the mother who he is really trying to get at..not in a situation like this. Being who Jen is, they woulda had to pin it on the sisters husband because of his previous criminal history and their turbulent relationship. it was the easiest thing for the police to do to not seem incompetent.Many murders go unsolved in Black communities but her case was too high profile to let that happen. There was also a report about the sisters husband not being at a certain place at the time of the murder taking place. i cant remember it fully but it was on the news, something to do with is mobile phone being traced as being elsewhere, thats how I remember and thought this is all too strange. God rest their souls and wow to Jen for being able to recover from something like that so quickly. I woulda needed at least a year to mourn before returning to work. Anyhoo, if it is him, eternal damnation on his soul and if that killer is still walking around, karma is watching you.

The alleged murderer is NOT the biological father of Julian King. I honestly find it disconcerting that several people on this site and other sites have tried to blame the murders on Jennifer's brother and/or sister. I completely understand that her brother was known to have sold drugs and that life style can lead to an outcome like this one, however the mere fact that this William Balfour character never reached out to the family while all of this was happening and was found hiding out at his girlfriend's house leads me to believe he played a part in this. He may not have pulled the trigger himself but he was some how involved in my humble opinion. The only people who can say 100% are unfortunately no longer with us. We can only pray that justice is served and pray for this family. Such a sad story.

Please let's not be too naive to think that this boy did this crime. I am sorry...since day ONE ....I never believed he committed the crime. This is all too strange and JULIA the sister has more explaining to do. She unfortunately was apart of something that backfired. Did she want her family to die NO...but whatever she was into hustling, gambling, whatever....backfired and her family paid the price. You are speaking the TRUTH!! Many people don't really know this kind of stuff works, but it was definitely a hit. I'm an attorney myself and know his defense attorney very well, and he's said the same thing. This guy was involved, but definitely the fall guy. Such a horrible tragedy, my heart really goes out to Jennifer. All the success in the world doesn't replace your family, but I'm glad that she is moving forward in a positive way that would have made them proud. Do you know what "estranged" means? It means that they were not living as husband and wife at the time of the murders. It does not mean that they weren't married, therefore it's entirely plausible that they were "estranged" in 2008, and not divorced until 2011. SMDH! #RIF

Yes honey Reading is fundamental...too bad you failed comprehension. You went through all of that and proved exactly what I was saying. They WERE estranged in 2008. They ARE divorced now, which makes them no longer estranged. DUH. The article says "William, the estranged husband of Jen's sister Julia, is charged with..." This is present tense sweetie...meaning we're talking about today, right now, this minute, and right now they are DIVORCED, not ESTRANGED. If the sentence were referring to their relationship at the time, you would be correct, but that's not the case. So, the next time you want to try and correct someone, at least make sure you know what you're talking about. #RIF

Please let's not be to nieve to think that this boy did this crime. I am sorry...since day ONE ....I never believed he committed the crime. This is all too strange and JULIA the sister has more explaining to do. She unfortunately was apart of something that backfired. Did she want her family to die NO...but whatever she was into hustling, gambling, whatever....backfired and her family paid the price. This thug unfortunately is taking the wrap because he probably was controlling and jealous....BUT just happened to be the scapegoat. He is also uneducated and cannot properly defend himself against this. When you are poor you cannot get the right legal team to pull you out of this. Also this crime was so sensationalized that the public already convicted him. JULIA is who eveyone should be looking at! Gangs in Chicago are notorious and a debt is a debt even if it is your son and family. I truly pray for peace as well as closure for JHud, but Belford is not guilty of committing the auctual craime. It's not to say he do knows who's at fault but he himself didn't do it. If JHud was not the now famous star this case wouldn't be getting all the attention it has gotten. I also believe that Julia do know what took place on that horrible day and she herself didn't expect for the outcome to be as it was. She truly didn't show saddness as I thought she should have especially losing a mother, brother and your only child, her hearthache just was a felt like JHud was in her terrible loss. I do believe Belford knows who's guilty of the crime. I also believe that this was all about money/drugs because the brother was a big drug dealer from what I heard. I hope justice prevail and the real killers are sault.

I wonder about some of the

I wonder about some of the posters on here. Some of you guys have NO sense of humility nor maturity. This women's family was damn near wiped out, including a young child. And the only surviving member, is the link to all of the deaths. How a joke can even be formulated or enter into one's thought process after reading this article is beyond me. Anyway, I wish Jen and her friends and family strength and courage throughout this ordeal. It seemed as though she was sort of dealing with it. Now to have this memory brought up again, and as vividly as it will be presented especially in court...has got to be one of the most hardest things she'll ever have to do. God Bless....

Im not being evil Im being honest and its my opinion and everyone is entitled to it. Some people forgive more then others but screw all that. If you have a family member that has repeatedly made the same mistakes and that mistake results in the death of another family member I would be pissed regardless. That's not fair: I'm sure Julia blames herself EVERYDAY for the loss of her family. I can look at her & tell that she has self esteem issues because of her size. Her husband played on that like most mean-spirited control freaks do. All J-Hud has left, in terms of family is her sister. And I'm sure their mother--like most real moms-would not want them to be estranged. Julia's ex- husband is less crazy and more abusive and controlling than anything else. He knew that his wife's family never approved of him but loved her: and that is why he killed them. To hurt her. He knew what he was doing & I hope he gets the death penalty.
