MOVIE FAB: "Think Like A Man" PROJECTED At #1 Opening Weekend--With $20 Million

Think Like a Man, which stars fab folks like Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union, Taraji Henson, Meagan Good and Michael Ealy is expected to rake in at least $20M this weekend.  Get the deets inside as well as relationship advice from LaLa on keeping the romance alive and co-parenting.

 

Good news for the Think Like a Man cast.  After an ish load of promotion, the film is expected to have a big weekend at the box office.  According to Hollywood Reporter, the movie raked in $500,000 in Thursday's midnight runs and was said to be surging today (Friday).  All in all, experts predict the movie will win the box office with a $20 milion take over The Lucky One.

Folks will likely use the movie as a teaching tool for their own relationships.  One of the films stars, LaLa Anthony, sure did.  She said she got great advice while filming.

"You have to find what works in your relationship because not everything works for everybody. Every relationship is different," she tells TheYBF.com.  "As women we know, 'this is not going to work with my man'."  

She also revealed that it's important to keep the romance alive.  For her and hubby Carmelo Anthony, she said a "date night" is a good way to stay connected. She revealed to us: 

"We have our date nights at least once a week. It could be going somewhere or just sitting a home and watching a movie together. The thing about me and Melo is we love being around each other.  We don't smother one another and we give each other plenty of space."

And what La has to say about couples with kids going through relationship changes:

"It (having a child) brings you closer together through parenting.  You have to agree on how you are brining up this child and understand that everything you do is going to reflect on the child. You have to be conscious of the lessons you are teaching them and getting on the same page with your partner is a part of that process."

I am happy that the movie has

I am happy that the movie has acclaimed and great actors in it (such as Michael Ealy), and that it was successful. However, I guess I am just really tired of the typecasting. The particular genre doesn't interest me in the least; I think partly because a lot of black films are always centered around this whole...competition between men and women or dictating what a woman should do in order to keep a man. And honestly, black women are so much more than that. Tyler Perry is in a great position where he can really generate creative roles for black actors that deviate from the minstrel chars seen in the Madea films (whose resolution always has to do with a damaged woman finding the light through a union with her man who is obviously religious and deep rooted in Christianity or you have a less offensive version of that). I just really wish he would get more creative so we can actually have some thoughtful artistic films to see that are Oscar worthy. Where the heck are the Black Swans, Inceptions, and so on for OUR demographic? Nowhere b/c all we can manage to come by are these same tired themes..rewash, rinse, repeat.

I agree with your comment. I wish we'd see black actors in more versatile roles like Titanic, Benjamin Button, hec, even Twilight (for the teens of course). But we have a long road ahead of us. Although I haven't watched this film yet I am glad to hear that it was a level above Tyler Perry films (I can't stand TP films) and was more on par with a "Love and Basketball." I'll take that, for now.

Thanks CheyPie for your comment on my remark. You know, honestly, I don't bother to go to mainstream movies very often period. Hollywood in itself uses the same tired themes, but it's even worse for black films since they are really limited to two genres. I've found salvation on the independent film scene.. so I suggest if you feel this way as well, to go to your nearest independent film theater.

this movie is a must see. i loved it. a great movie. the actors were great. my bf enjoyed himself, so i know that is was good. great writing too. want to see it again because i laughed so much i missed some parts.

Taraji P. Henson and Kevin

Taraji P. Henson and Kevin Hart carried the weight of this film. Its a very good film and everyone should see it. This is not a black film. This is a film for everyone. I wish we drop the title "Black Film" its just a film. Time for us to take the limits off of our work.

I didn't feel like I would

I didn't feel like I would not like this movie because of K Hart's antics on the previews. I guess that was a marketing tactic to gain viewers. I went because I heard so many mixed reviews about the book and wanted to get a better handle on the material. Im SO glad I went and saw it! I am actually considering purchasing a copy. I like the way steve pops in and out to offer up descriptions of his terms. Very insightful. I could identify SPOT ON with Megan Good's character. I saw myself in her, which is so sad. Im glad I saw this film because now I know what I must do to change my outcomes!! SMH!! The movie had so many celebs in it and it was romantic, edgy, and everything a black film should be! So classy! I have friends who are llike each of the women portrayed. I will be watching again!!!

I saw the movie last night, and it was great. It's nothing like Tyler Perry movies. It's more like "The Bestman, Love and Basketball."

Great comparison and I agree (and another goodie that comes to mind is 'Love Jones') - the movie was great and the casting was awesome as everyone did a wonderful job and Kevin Hart is hilarious, really like that brotha's style and I absolutely LOVE me some Michael Ealy - talk about one fine and decadent man, OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just saw the movie, its really good. Don't wait for dvd or the bootleg...go and see the movie. It's funny and you will recognize people you know in this movie. good, good job very good.
