Gabrielle Union headed to Capitol Hill yesterday to host a briefing on teen violence. See her pics and get deets on the cause inside...

She went from partying at All-Star to being productive at our Nation's capital. Gabby Union attended yesterday's 'Prevent Teen Dating Violence: Stop Violence Against Women Before It Begins' advisory meeting on Capitol Hill. And tweeted:

Good mornin good ppl! Nat'l Advisory Committee meetings on Violence Against Women (& children) 2 day...tryin 2 make a difference

Gabby was there to talk about preventing teen violence as part of the SMART Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Act introduced by Congressman John Lewis.

It's great to see her speaking out about teen violence. As we all know, she was a victim of a horrific violent crime when she herself was a teen. Keep up the great work Gabby!

I'm from Ghana, came to America five years ago. I lived in all black neighborhood. I have to say African Americans are the biggest bully, insecure, low life losers. I had the worst experience in high school for constantly making fun of me, calling me ugly, you look like a monkey, you too dark , African bootyscratcher, you stink etc. It was torture. I'm new to this blog but it took me back to the bad memories. Their sense of humor of constant negativity, laughing/clowning people is dumb. You will think the adults/parent will be better but no. They are even more stupid. The girls will tell me, no boy wants you bcos u too dark and ugly. I had only one friend, Tolu a nigerian. They didn't pick on her as much bcos she was vocal and will fight back. I'm more of the quiet, shy one. The main thing they will say to her is u too light skin to be African. So stupid. The last horrible experience I had was when three girls beat me up on my way home for no reason. If not for Tolu that fought them back, it would have been worse. That was when my mommy did all she could to move to a new neighborhood. It's mostly arabs, asians and some whites. I'm glad, I finally went to a high school where kids didn't act like ANIMALS. Now, I'm in my first year in college, I still get angry when anything reminds me of that experience. Honestly, just like how people are speaking up about teen dating violence, bullying among teenagers should be a top priority. STUPIDITY/BULLYING among black people should be the MOST PRIORITY.

I come to The Ybf daily to

I come to The Ybf daily to check out the celeb news and everyday a topic about one thing explodes into an arguement about something entirely different. This article is about teen violence, Gabby is a wonderful person to have speak on it because she was raped as a youth. That takes courage. This article is not about skin tone, there should not be much of a discussion on her attractiveness, as it is pretty much universally agreed upon that she is beautiful. But turning something positive ( speaking out and encouraging teens) into something negative (skintone wars) embarrasses yourself and the entire Black Community. Because if you think that others (outside communities) don't come on this site, you are mistaken. And if you don't see the self hate that lay in your words, then you have a lot of soul searching to do. I apologize in advance for any mis-spelling or grammar errors.
