R.I.P. Don Cornelius, Dead At 75

In shocking and sad news, "Soul Train" founder and music television innovator, Don Cornelius, was found dead of apparent suicide in his California home.

Details inside...

TMZ reports 75-year-old Chicago native Don Cornelius was found dead in his home in Sherman Oaks, CA.  He has 2 sons.  According to the report:

...Law enforcement sources tell us it appears he committed suicide.

We're told cops discovered the body at around 4 AM PT. Law enforcement sources tell us ... Cornelius died from a gunshot wound to the head and officials believe the wound was self-inflicted.

We're told Cornelius was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

During Don's bitter divorce proceedings in 2009, he told an L.A. judge he was suffering from "significant health issues" and wanted to "finalize this divorce before I die."

Mr. Cornelius kicked off "Soul Train" in 1971 in response to African American singers/artists not being featured in the popular musical show "American Bandstand."  Once he incorporated dancers into his weekly music show, "Soul Train" became one of the most successful shows on air to date.

CNN has confirmed the story as well.

News of his death is absolutely disturbing and shocking.

BONUS: The one and only time Mr. Cornelius hit the famed "Soul Train" line:

My mother always said to me

My mother always said to me as a kid; we know how we're going to come into this world but we never know how we're going to leave it. Who would have ever though that Mr. "Soul Train" man would simply give up on life. R.I.P Don Corneliusa. Maybe you may not have realized it during your days of personal pain and suffering but you meant a lot to many of us, the world over and your sudden and sad passing reminds us of how extremely fragile life really is. I hope He finally finds Love and Peace where ever he's at. And I want to thank him for the many years of Soul.

RIP DON. YOU WERE A TRUE

RIP DON. YOU WERE A TRUE BLACK AMERICAN HERO. YOU WILL BE MISSED. IT'S A SAD DAY. AND I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THE IGNORANCE I'M READING. HALF OF YOU CAN'T SPELL AND PROBABLY CAN'T EVEN READ. BUT YOU HAVE ENOUGH NERVE AND SIT HERE AND JUDGE SOMEONE. YOUR NOT GOD. YOUR A NOBODY. THAT'S WHY YOU SIT ON YOUR FAT LAZY ASSES MAKING JUDGEMENT ON SOMEONE ELSE'S TRAGEDY. IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE, THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. TO SAY HE WAS ALMOST DONE IS CRUDE. HE WAS IN PAIN AND WANTED TO GO. MAYBE HE DIDN'T WANT TO SUFFER LIKE SO MANY OTHERS. I CAN'T BLAME HIM FOR THAT. I WATCHED MY GRANDMOTHER DIE SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY FROM CANCER. YOU NEVER WANT TO WITNESS SUCH A PAIN. SO I UNDERSTAND WHY HE TOOK HIS LIFE. MAY GOD BLESS YOUR SPIRIT AND SOUL. WE WERE BLESSED TO HAVE YOU AS LONG AS WE DID. RIP DC...

You sound like a one-dementional ass. If his health was deteriorating and he did not want to be at the mercy of others in his final days, he did what he thought was his only livable options. It's ignorant to judge anyone who chooses death as their best option. Just wish then peace and move on with your day.
