Dr. King...In Rare Form

Dr. Martin King wasn't just the iconic personification of what the world should be...he was a husband, father, and seemingly great friend.  We adore these rare and vintage pics and video of a happy, loving and smiling Dr. King with his wife, Coretta, and good friend and fellow civil rights activist, Harry Belafonte....

We came across the above 1956 photo...coincidentally just the day before we observe Dr. King's Born Day...and it captured our hearts.  So often the masses focus on solely the iconic social and political influences he brought to the world.  But it's also important to see the human side of someone so great.  Because it makes their greatness seem that much more attainable for our own selves.  And inspires us to do our part in carrying on the legacy.

Check out this rare video of Martin Luther King, Jr. on a talk show cracking a joke--not the way he's usually perceived in tv/media at that time--and breaking his always serious image while talking about his turbulent flight from Washington, DC the day before:

Even though the video says it was done on the Michael Douglass show, some say this is actually from The Johnny Carson show in 1968 while it was being guest hosted by Harry Belafonte.

What are you doing today to honor Dr. King?

There's a lot of revisionism

There's a lot of revisionism going on with these Farrakhan fools and Black separatist who want to distort history and facts. It wasn't the Civil Rights movement that cause the current dysfunction in the black community. The Civil Rights movement was needed, unfortunately, at some point the Civil Rights Movement was hijacked/sold out by post King black leaders. Now it's the progressive, liberal, socialist, feminist and illegal immigration movement. These white elitist with their social engineering programs are the root of 72% black illegitimacy, dysfunctional families with no black men in the home and dysfunctional black communities. Remember from 1900 to 1960 in spite of abject poverty, Jim Crow and discrimination black illegitimacy was under 24%, the majority of black women were married and almost every black kid lived in a home with a black father as the head of the household, Fact! White progressive liberals with their desire for the "New Familial.... Arrangement" did something that Slavery, Jim Crow, Discrimination and poverty were unable to do. Destroy the black family. The truth is that before King the MAJORITY of blacks were living in abject poverty. Not this fake poverty we have today with the multiple flat screen tv's, running water and heat. lol Blacks were living 6 to 10 in a family in 2 bedroom apartments and shacks unable to move because of lack of enough income and racist housing covenants and laws for black men who worked all day . Blacks couldn't get most non menial jobs, get loans from banks, eat at many restaurants and go to most places outside of the black community. Blacks were unable to go to most colleges in the south, use rest rooms, drink from same water fountain and worked on the same job doing the same work for half the pay. This was all legal! Remember King died in Memphis fighting for black garbage men who were making half of their white co-workers doing the exact same job! The overwhelming majority of blacks have always worked for whites. That was before the Civil Rights Movement and after the Civil Rights Movement. Today there are more blacks with college degrees and businesses than there has ever been in the history of this country. Blacks have more wealth than they've ever had (not withstanding the economic downturn of last few years). The problem is the dysfunctional black family. No community can be productive with 72% illegitimacy and no men in the home. It has never been accomplished in the history of civilization. This questioning of King's accomplishments is because of Farrakhan and these Fake Black Separatist. Which is why I'm telling the truth about these clowns. What has Farrakhan and the rest the Fake Pro Black Separatist accomplished in the last 50 years for blacks? Where's are their black high schools, trade schools, housing developments and black villages showing blacks how to live productively with other blacks? Where are their manufacturing and food and supply distributions companies. Where are their significant black businesses employing hundreds/thousands of blacks? They have done nothing. Farrakhan doesn't even live among blacks. He lives in a white and Jewish community. It's just laughable to me that this guy and his followers can complain about King. Farrakhan couldn't wash Kings balls. lol

Thank you Dr. Martin Luther

Thank you Dr. Martin Luther King! I appreciate this post and am glad time was taken out to honor him with a post. It is very important that we don't forget all that has been done for us and teach our children just how far black people have come. Yes, we have much further to go, but let's not forget how much we have today as black people and most importantly teach our children about how our people fought for us. Not sure where the disconnect occurred but today's youth aren't learning all they should about the the things we have overcome as a people and it is very important.

Happy MLK day black women..

Happy MLK day black women.. "Behind every strong black man stands a strong woman" to bad that doesn't exist today with black women, but hey it is what it is. But didn't the brotha Harry Belafonte say "I've come upon something that disturbs me deeply," "We have fought hard and long for integration, as I believe we should have, and I know that we will win. But I've come to believe we're integrating into a burning house."<<<<<

This is a great post, thank you for it. I'm so happy that I come from a generation that was taught about MLK Jr. and to appreciate and revere his importance in our past and impact on our present. I don't know why people are choosing to use this post to gripe about present day things they don't like. Let's allow the man to have his day and focus on the positive.

Thank you for giving your

Thank you for giving your life so that future black generations could have more than your own. I'm sorry that your legacy has been dumbed down by music in the black community that in general regards black women as whores or sluts. I just heard a song the other day that my daughter was singing. Basically the lyrics had to do with the artist insisting that he only wants a quickie and not a relationship. I am also sorry that the black community is plagued by opportunist like Micheal Jordan who will sit back and watch our young black youth kill one another for his shoes and then show his gratitude for blacks killing one another in his name by marrying a white woman. I'm sorry that the black church has been inundated with preachers who are in the business for that almighty dollars. I'm sorry that the first black president signed a bill into law a few weeks ago that allow the military to hold american citizens indefinitely without due process under the law. I'm sorry that no one even took notice because he's black. Where ever you are pray for us. Your people are in need.
