The 2011 Soul Train Music Awards aired last night and viewers were treated to tributes to music icons Heavy D and Gladys Knight featuring some of today's hottest artists.

I had meant to post something

I had meant to post something the night of the awards but I thought it was just me feeling the Soul Train Awards show was a disappointment, but they keep showing it over and over and it gets worse the more you watch it. I have been a big fan of BET for many years and had been looking forward to the show all month. I was ready to turn it off midway it was so boring. The pre show was even worse. How dare they use Tamar Braxton to do a tribute to a woman that has made music history. I enjoyed Robin Thicke, Joe and Eric Benet, but it's sad to say that was the only high point for me. I love Cedric but even his high energy level was null and void. I have seen better productions in the small town I live in. Sorry BET you missed the mark this time.

BET/Centric has gotten too

BET/Centric has gotten too big to put on such low quality programming. If they weren't going to do the Soul Train Awards any justice they should have left it alone. Heavy, Gladys, and EWF all deserved better and if you couldn't give it to them in two hours, shit it's your network, take three, just get it done right. Tamar should not be doing tributes, period; I don't give a damn who her husband or sister is. I applaud BET for not letting Debra Lee on stage anymore but they are still not out of the dog house with me especially after this!

This show was terrible, it was rushed and no overwhelming performances especially the tributes. I am so very disappointed, BET need to make a comment and apologize, that was a wasted two hours.

I don't know much about the others but the tribute to Gladys Knight was hideous. I think our people should have better. Why would you get some non-singing inexperienced singers to pay tribute to Gladys is beyond my understanding? That's just wrong.

I'll watch any show to see a tribute to Gladys & EWF, but what a disappointment. You could even see it on Gladys's and EWF's faces. They were not happy. Whoever directed/produced this show should be fired- end of discussion. To not put tremendous effort and money into securing talent that would do these legends justice is criminal.

The show was VERY

The show was VERY disappointing and like most posters already stated, Gladys Knight, Heavy D, and Earth Wind & Fire deserved MUCH better than that! Is it just me or did it seem like the entire show was centered around lame Miguel and Cee-Lo? The performances were just so dry and thank goodness Melanie Fiona came out there on stage to save Cee-Lo cause she was one of the only ones that entire night that actually sounded great! What was up with the whole skit with Lance talking about where Keshia and Demetria got their hair and then he started to take off his shirt...now that would have been the highlight of the night if he had done that cause women are crazy about Lance! However, the celebs were dressed nice, but really, Gladys Knight's "black history" speech was the highlight of the entire night for me! It was good to see Nene and Cynthia show up on the show and I can tell that Nene is very popular cause she's so funny! What I hated about the Heavy D tribute was the limited amount of stars that showed up on the show and also Soul For Real was scheduled to perform but I read the lead singer of the group's Twitter page and he said BET/Centric f***ed up by not letting them perform. It was a screw up. Why does it seem like every since Debra Lee took over that network, there has been countless screw ups on these award shows?! It's crazy. Also, Cedric The Entertainer was funny, but not as funny as he usually is! Some of his jokes were a little dry. The show could have been MUCH better and the pre-show was HORRIBLE. I expected to see a variety of celebs. The sad thing about it was that there have been better tributes on YouTube for Heavy D than what BET/Centric put together!

Chrisette was the best singer

Chrisette was the best singer of that tribute. Tamar didn't sound THAT bad. She was trying to be too sexy and Beyonce. That ashy wig is def Beyonce but it ha to go and WTF she had on?? She needs a stylist!! She looked like the scaredy cat lion on the Wizard of Oz!! Too much yellow/beige. First of all the song was not even booty shaking or a dance song for Tamar to be acting like that and skipping to and fro maybe they should hire her for a Beyonce tribute one year since her old azz wants to be Beyonce sooo bad (her words). She keeps saying she wants to pow pow pow and drop it like its hot like Beyonce. Marsha can NOT sing!!! She sounds like a broken record and like she is being strangled. WOW!!!! I rather listen to Rihanna any day. Plus she is ugly and looks sick as hell!!!! Mary Mary are trying too hard to fit in and be secular. Never thought Natalie Cole could sing, she lived off her fathers fame and name.

Yea Gladys should have

Yea Gladys should have received better. But at least they honored her and she got an award. She killed it and did a tribute to herself by asking BeBe to come on stage an join her. She was like if they can't bring it I sure will........... Tamar was trying to showcase her talent and not giving a tribute it was all about herself touching her hair and the moves "epic fail" Vince probably begged to have Tamar in that showcase. If Tamar have not come across as being spoiled, cocky, and arrogant on the Braxtons then maybe more people would be more appreciative of her for who she really is. If she wasn't married to Vince we would not even know who she was and just labeled her as Toni's little sister. Who would buy her cd even if she put one out. Nevertheless enjoyed the show.

I enjoyed Robin Thicke, Joe and Eric Benet. Cedric was okay but the best host to me was still Monique when she hosted the BET awards. Tamar did not prove to me that she should not be a back up singer. She really his wonderful self-esteem, I'll give her that.

yes i agree it was not good and i was so looking foward to it since they did such a good job with anita baker...im like how gladys go up there on her OWN tribute and sing better than all of yall? that is crazy. EWF tribute was better, robin thicke sounded suprisingly good cause i like him but he is not the best live, and eric was killing those high notes. I liked marsha, but after tonight i dont think I am a fan no more...not trying to be mean but she sounded better when she was bigger...search her and gerald levert singing ebony eyes...she kills it!

Patti LaBelle had to get up and do her own tribute last year on one of those BET awards show because the singers where horrible. Sometimes, you just gotta do your own shit. These newer/younger singers have no showmanship or musicianship. These record labels need to bring back artist development in a major way because they are lacking A LOT!

I thought it was just me, but after reading all the previous post I can truly said it wasn't. I also thought it was pretty bad. I agree with the person who posted this "Jill Scott, Mary J and Fantasia for EVERY tribute, but Angie Stone, Jazmine Sullivan, Jennifer Hudson....shoot Faith Evans could pull off more soul than the bunch they used" I love Gladys, she deserved much better.

I absolutely LOVE and ADORE Gladys Knight...it was a tragedy to witness that train wreck of a performance. They should never be allowed to produce another show like this again. If they are not willing to do it right, they shouldn't be allowed to do it at all. HUGE MISTAKE...I will not be in another hurry to watch The Soul Train Awards ever again.

Marsha has a good voice and they're just promoting her. I find it to be kind of messed up that they promoted her CD and not Natalie Stewart's, who was the other half of Floetry. Natalie has a beautiful CD worth listening to. Either way it is what it is. I think this was not the best Soul Train Awards ever.

I actually liked the Heavy D

I actually liked the Heavy D tribute. I didn't know what to expect since I heard so many not so good things about it, but I'm a true hip hop fan and could feel the love and energy from the artists they chose. It was a different style, but overall good job. Doug E did a great job MCing as always. I wish there would have been some dancers and each rapper exit and let the next artist come out. Too much going on onstage. I would have liked to have see MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Twista, Busta....Now Glady's and Earth Wind and Fire tributes were awful! I was VERY disappointed. That definitely looked like they just threw some folks together. TAMAR BRAXTON was a HOT MESS.COM. This was her chance to show the world how she could be a solo artist and I just didn't see it. It was a lot of hair flinging and not singing well at all. I LOVE CHRISETTE, but she was not a good choice vocally, neither was Marsha. You couldn't hear "The Pips" and their dance moves weren't tight. They should have had Tyrese, Johnny Gill and Trey Songz be the Pips like the did for the O'Jays tribute. Would have sounded and performed better. And Earth Wind and Fire, they could have done soo much better - got some serious performers. It was a waste.

The show was the wackest shit I've seen in a long time. The look on Eric Bene's face was priceless! Seeing Big Daddy Kane was it for me cause I've been lovin him for too damn long! I don't know who put that show together but they should be fired! Tamar there are simply no words for you. Don't care for Mary Mary although they can sing. Something was painfully off with Marsha. And where the hell was Don Corneilus?

Gladys knight deserved a better Better tribute because everybody who sung did a horrible job.. Tamar's part was the worst.. I could barely hear what she was saying with her deep ass voice and two she was acting like it was HER tribute acting like beyonce with all the moving, shaking of the hair.. The girl was doing to much.. If she does have an album come out i wont be buying it.. As for the rest of the showing it was a Big disappointment.. Im sorry but the show its self was boring

I think that the only probkem

I think that the only probkem with Tamar was that she spent too much time pumping herself up. Saying that she's too big for doo wop pop and such. If she would have not pumped herself up to be the next coming of Whitney Houston circa 1985 we would have been pleasantly surprised. She did do too much Beyonce and not enough singing but she didn't sound that bad to me from what I was able to hear. She definitely sounds much better than I will ever sound.
