DO GOODER: Jay-Z Hosts "Extraordinary" Event For The Shawn Carter Foundation

Jay-Z and The Shawn Carter Foundation hosted a carnival for An Evening of "Making The Ordinary Extraordinary" at Pier 54 in NYC last night. He hit the carpet with his mother, Gloria Carter, as she's the CEO of the Foundation.

Mr. Carter arrived to his Foundation's event for some fun carnival times and champagne last night. And it was indeed something to celebrate as they raised $1,033,000 for the Foundation.

Even hit the red carpet with a few of the attractions.

He and Mama Carter posed with winners of some of the prizes.

Like the winner of a Chrysler 300. Nice!

Jay played some games with the attendees:

And signed a huge bottle of Ace of Spades.

His celeb friends like Andre Harrell, Questlove, and Kevin Liles were all there:

And his athlete homies like CC Sabathia and his wife Amber and A-Rod were there:

Fun times I'm sure.

About Jay-Z's foundation:

The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation was conceived of in 2002 and officially established as a 501(c)3 public charity in 2003 by Shawn & Gloria Carter. With an original vision and mission to help any individual facing socio-economic hardships further his or her education at institutions of higher learning, Shawn and Gloria Carter kicked off the Foundation’s efforts by awarding one student with full college tuition in 2002. From 2003-2005 the Foundation provided 50 scholarships to students in 50 different states yearly. In 2006, in addition to providing scholarship awards to a growing number of students in need, the Foundation launched the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation College Tours. Since the Foundation’s inception, over 750 students have received awards totaling over $1.1 million dollars.

Only found 1 pic of Bey from this night. She looked cute even if it weren't clear with her colorful shirt and Birken. Jay did his thing with the ladies as walking tables, flame jugglers, men on stilts & mini men at the door. The double chicks were jumping to RTW & Super Bass and of course 4 and WTT were blasting throughout. The prizes were CRAZY high ($$$) and hot. Jay always puts on a good show.

Considering that I work for

Considering that I work for the foundation and I know the work that is done for the college tour and other events to be successful, I think you all should do some research before making empty comments. I have been working with the tours since it's inception and I am proud to see how many children are impacted by the work. It was Dubois who said that the talented tenth is supposed to uplift the other 90% and I'm glad to see Jay do his part!

I def appauld Jay-Z for his good deed. My college tuition was paid fully with multiple scholarships and If I knew about his, I would've applied as well. I graduated college without a penny in loans which is why I give $1000 scholarship per year to my school. It's not a lot but its what I can afford and I know it changes people's lives everyday. I dropped out of school initially when I couldn't afford it but the scholarships gave me a second chance and now I'm almost done with my CPA exam. I can't wait to be one of the 4% black CPAs.

Jay-Z is nothing but a

Jay-Z is nothing but a mascot. These types of events are used to fool people into thinking that Jay-Z represents for his city. The building of that Sports center is doing more damage than it is good. Jay-Z then uses vendors to give away nominal trinkets and prizes and people seem "happy". This is the reason that he does these types of events to appease the masses. Jay-Z owns about 1% of the team but the Russian who actually owns the team trots him out because Jay-Z is nothing more than a figurehead in this deal. Jay-Z has a miniscule portion of the team and in return he shields the fact that NBA owners are fleeching the players out of money and gives this whole deal the image of being all about providing amenities/pride to brooklyn and it’s residents. Sad. And so many people here are blind and fooled.
