"Person Of Interest" Star Taraji P. Henson Pops Off About Being EXCLUDED From The Show's Publicity

Talk about a snub!  Actress Taraji P. Henson took to her Facebook Fan Page to express how confused and upset she was that CBS and others decided to exclude her from all promotions of the upcoming new drama, "Person of Interest."  I mean, she is the female lead on the show.

Deets inside...

It's bad enough CBS did not include the 2-time Academy Award nominee Taraji Henson in any tv promotions of the new suspense drama "Person of Interest" (a still picture of Taraji from the show is above).  But TV Guide also snubbed her from the cover story about the show.  She said:

WOW!!!! TV Guide is NOT including me on the cover with my cast members….....I am the female lead of a 3 member cast and I’m not included on the cover!!!!!! Do you see the shit I have to deal with in this business…..I cram to understand!!!!

And after removing it, she posted:

I swear you guys keep my spirit lifted cause it ain't easy AT ALL for a sister in Hollywood. Your love is God sent!!!! Thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart. Wanted to tell you all this on live TV at the Emmys (if I'd won) but......oh well. Muah!!!!!

I'm not even mad at her for poppin' off.  She was also not included on the IMDB page for the show.  I've personally seen the "Person of Interest" promos a million times on CBS and I didn't even know Taraji was on the show--seeing that they ave yet to include her.  Very interesting.  Still, the show premieres tomorrow night on CBS at 9pET.

The Randomness:

1.  Poor Halle!  She broke her foot in Spain while there to film her movie, Cloud Atlas! Story

Well at least now we see why

Well at least now we see why white directors dont hire black actresses. This idiot should have gone about this more professionally instead of going on facebook. And common, JJ ABRAMS of all people. He is one of the hottest directors in hollywood who happens to think of black people in his works. Way to go Taraji for implying that he is racist and killing oppportuinites for other black actresses he might have hired. STUPID! Everyone saying she should have spoken up, I hope you keep your mouth shut and stop complaining of lack of roles for black ppl in Hollywood. because this sort of drama is why white ppl avoid blacks.

You sound like a COMPLETE

You sound like a COMPLETE TOOL of the biased American media! Are you kidding me? She is not Hattie McDaniel and this is not Gone with The Wind! This is 2011 and she is considered one of the show's leading actors. She should have been included in all of the TV series promotionals period! Without question she should have been included. The show's producer, director & PR team figured that black folks would follow like the SHEEP some of you seem to be, regardless of who they used to promote this series. Well this is one person who will not be watching this series and will be sending a note displaying my anger over the treatment of a fine young African American actress!

1. her initial comment was

1. her initial comment was about TV GUIDE. how is that implying jj abrams is racist? 2. so in your opinion black actors should accept sub par promotion in comparison to their white counterparts and just be happy a white director hired them? m'kay.
WhoGonCheckMeBoo's picture

My apology, now I understand

My apology, now I understand what you're saying: 1. White Producers/Directors should NOT hire Blacks unless they intend to put them in promos. 2. White Producers/Directors should fire any Blacks presently working in if they don't intend to put them in promos. Now I get your point, stupid me!
Gymo's picture

you are very stupid if that's

you are very stupid if that's the point you got. but touching on point #1, what is the sense in hiring a LEAD actor that isn't worthy of promotion?

After this they definitely will kill her off. Maybe they'll hire a more mature black actress like Audra McDonald (Private Practice) or Gugu Mbatha (Undercovers)

For all you folks who think

For all you folks who think she should do this and do that, are you going to hire her when she is "blackballed in Hollywood" and no producer/Director wants the headache of working with her? My advice to her is more level headed, like black athletes of past you get in do a great job and in future promos you will be front and center, or to take your advice she should quit that racist show and go home
Gymo's picture

Racism is still alive.

Racism is still alive. They've just found more ways to conceal it. When black people wake up and realize this, things like this won't suprise you as much.
Anonymous's picture

I don't think ANY person in

I don't think ANY person in this room said or would say that racism is not alive and well. What people ARE saying is that she made a very stupid choice to run to Facebook to lament that she should be included in the promotions for this show. And that the reason she is not being promoted is because of gender or race or both. Bottom line she is not that well known. I think that CBS and TV Guide are in the business of SELLING. YBF people know her the truth is most of America does not. This seems to be a business decision. I will say this 100 times. If you have to TELL people that you are something like an Oscar NOMINATED actress....the reality is MOST people don't know or don't care. If Taraji P. Henson had won we might not even be having this discussion. Her decision to rant on FACEBOOK was STUPID. Because now she may also gain a new label and that is being difficult and playing victim.
FURIOUS digitari 's picture

then why bother casting her

then why bother casting her in a leading role if, according to you, nobody outside ybf knows her?

snub fiorreal. how do u not

snub fiorreal. how do u not have the LEAD front and center? whats the justification? and some idiots think we still dont have racism in 2011. what bullshit. im going to watch tonight to see how much of a role taraji plays. and her character as well.

u sound stupid as hell be

u sound stupid as hell be lucky she working!!! she is the female lead out of a three character hell yeah she mad! she is not a character that comes and goes she is a lead. have u ever seen a promo pic or even heard a destiny child song without a hint of beyonce? no she was the lead, but every cd they made had a song with her all alone not even the groups vocals!
Anonymous's picture

Are you stupid? She is to be

Are you stupid? She is to be happy that she put her hard work into a show and is being excluded from the promos? It is people like you who when we were enslaved would say we should stop complaining and be happy we are alive. Your stupidity confounds me.

What's with you and this slave thing? - You now have power use it and stop whining about slavery.
Gymo's picture

but you're saying taraji

but you're saying taraji shouldn't exercise that power by keeping quiet. just be a happy little nigger that you got a job. you make no sense. SMDH @ uncle toms and stupid mofos content with towing the line to preserve the status quo. she has EVERY right to speak on it.
WhoGonCheckMeBoo's picture

I don't understand why some

I don't understand why some Blacks, no matter how rich/powerful/influential they become they still give away their power. Taraji should have made an appointment with the Producer and then gone to his office, sank into his plush couch and then said " JJ, there is something I don't understand, please explain it to me, I am a third supporting lead and I am not in the promos, WHY?" Then if he can't explain it plausibly and makes no effort to correct it then you speak on it in an interview - Going on FB is like trying to burn down their new show. I like Taraji as a black actress only, I have never considered her very smart, and this proves my point.
Gymo's picture

first of all it was twitter

first of all it was twitter and whos to say she didnt take the necessary steps to find out whats goin on. she has came a long way as an actress and im very sure she knws how to be politically correct.
Anonymous's picture

complaining via facebook is

complaining via facebook is tantamount to burning down the show, but conducting a whiny interview is not? she complained about tv guide, not the network or the producer, so what are you fetchin stepit supporters babbling about?
WhoGonCheckMeBoo's picture

I agree 100% with everything

I agree 100% with everything you said...especially the stepin fetchit remark. lol! Based on the majority of the most comments, people enjoy being led!

Then she should just shut up!

Then she should just shut up! Stop whining and do her job.
Gymo's picture

she did her job by filming.

she did her job by filming. it is the show's job to give her and her costars equitable promotion. it makes no sense that so many didn't know she was even on the show.
WhoGonCheckMeBoo's picture

What you said makes no sense,

What you said makes no sense, absolutely no sense! The show's job is the make a profit for the Network and Producers, they only obligations to her or any actor is to pay them the agreed salary...period. Tomorrow they can fire her/cut her scenes/give her more scenes/change her/their work hours and her and the other actors only option is to resign.
Gymo's picture

nothing you're saying makes

nothing you're saying makes sense. you're ranting and raving about a comment that wasn't aimed at the network or producers, but you continuously fail to acknowledge that little tidbit. getting the job is just as important to her career as promotion. how are her fans expected to tune in if they don't know she's on the show? if its all about the bottom line, why bother hiring her if they felt she didn't have the star power to bring in viewers? for all that they could have hired a buxom blonde becky who they would have been proud to feature in promos whether she was unknown or not.
WhoGonCheckMeBoo's picture

I'm not surprised because FOX

I'm not surprised because FOX excluded Daman Wayans, Jr. from some of his show's promo!!! He's a co-star along side 3 others, so he should've been included. That's Hollywood for you. Oh yeah, the freakin' show is stupid!!!!!!!! I only laughed a couple of times - boooooooooo
Happy Lady's picture

Not including her in the pub

Not including her in the pub for the show seems all kinds of wrong--AND STILL, notwithstanding her anger (which is understandable), there is a more effective and professional way to handle matters than taking to facebook--one of the hardest lessons I'm learning is self-restraint, as I let God fight my battles...when I humble myself, even in the face of unfair treatment, He always exalts me higher than I could ever promote myself. Just saying: humility is very, very difficult, but in the end, it's not about being a punk--it's really about learning how to handle self.
Anonymous's picture

CBS is smart, they know what

CBS is smart, they know what the hell they're doing. They are 1 of the few networks that have Black Actors in lead roles anyway. Umm so.... Fuck a promo!!! Just be greatful for the show... especially when Black shows get canceled after 5 episodes. People gonna know Taraji is the lead when they watch the show. SHE CONCENTRATING ON ALL THE WRONG SHIT, BETTER BE USING HER ENERGY ON MAKING THAT SHOW A HIT!!!
Anonymous's picture

I totally agree with

I totally agree with you. It's a show geared towards Geeky White guys between 40-to-60yrs old, who like science, the Government is spying on you and lots of fight action, so they didn't show you on the promos, big deal, 1. ya got the job many White girls would love to have. 2. Dazzle them with your performance and you will get all the future promo shots you need. or now stop whining!
Gymo's picture

If black folks watched drama

If black folks watched drama then CBS wouldn't have done that. Now what? are black people gonna boycott a show CBS know they never intended on watching in the first. No buffoonery, no black people. I guess they (CBS) if Taraji don't like it she (and her fan base) can go work as a Basketball wife.
Anonymous's picture

Wow! Why so much hate in the

Wow! Why so much hate in the tone of your comment? It is truly unfair to generalize all black people into one category. I am sure there are some white folk who only watch shows like jersey shore and the white housewife shows. I for one like to watch dramas and it is only fair to place her in the ads since she is a lead in the show. right?
Anonymous's picture

There is hate in my tone,

There is hate in my tone, because I am black and watch drama, and am frustrated with my people not being interested in watching anything that doesn't come with a laugh every 30 seconds. Black people didn't support Tyler Perry's "The Family that preys" Drama but make Madea #1 everytime she come out. then we wonder why people don't take us seriously or why we don't come to mind when a part for a doctor, lawyer, ect comes up. as it is I can't talk to my black co-workers about anything of substance, but they have all the news on whats going on on all the tacky reality tv show. THAT IS ALL THEY WATCH. . . .no dramas.
Anonymous's picture

WOW...Tell me how you really

WOW...Tell me how you really feel. LOL!
MJ's picture

She needs to quit that show.

She needs to quit that show. CBS should've known better and they know she is on this new show. We to boycott these shows and awards shows.
EmmaV's picture

She should have done her

She should have done her ranting behind close doors, you are not in any of the promos for the show, so it is much easier to replace you with another actress if they dont like your attitude.
NYbabe's picture

I can not believe all this

I can not believe all this 'be a happy slave and shut up' talk. She was right to speak out on what was a questionable direction by CBS. I applaud her authenticity. The fact that many have said they did not even know she was on the show is evidence of an issue. Btw, I did see her in a promo and thought of not watching after the promo mentioned the Lost actor. LOL!
Anonymous's picture

"be a happy slave and shut up

"be a happy slave and shut up talk?" Are you being serious? You know it amazes me the way some people think. This is one of the things I love about Blogs. You can talk to a person you might NEVER meet under normal circumstances..... You are missing the point. This is not about Slavery. Taraji P. Henson has a job she loves and this situation could happen to any person.... meaning working for a place and perceiving a slight. I don't think people are saying that Taraji P. Henson does not have a right to her feelings. The complaints are coming for how she chose to deal with them. There is nothing "authentic" about flying off the handle and doing something stupid that can only hurt you in the end. See this is my issue with Reality TV. People see idiots like Tamie Roman and they think she is "keeping" it real being emotional and violent because she thinks people are disrespecting her. Taraji should have gone to the source with her complaints. The source is the only place she can get a resolution to her perceptions. Hollywood can be sexist, racist and everything else but so can any place you work. But a publicity campaign can be done in many ways. Maybe the audience is all male that they are looking for? Maybe the TV audience does not even know who she is?? There are a number of potential reasons. Taraji is hurting herself using FACEBOOK as her platform to complain and she is hurting herself. The use of "slavery" by you describes a victim mentality that far too many people share. Bottom line she made a poor decision and there is nothing authentic about it!
FURIOUS digitari 's picture

From what I read Taraji's

From what I read Taraji's facebook was talking about TV GUIDE snubbing her for the cover promotion and NOT CBS or the producers. Or maybe I missed something.
Anonymous's picture

She is mad at CBS (and the

She is mad at CBS (and the producers) for now including her in ANY TV promotions. And also TV Guide. She needs to take her beef to the producers who decide how things are promoted. I think this is an issue of promotions. While the YBF crowd knows Taraji P. Henson most of America does not. She is not a household name. I think she let her nominations go to her head. Being nominated is great but most people don't remember them. They only tend to remember winners. Taraji P. Henson allowed her ego to get the best of her. She needs to speak with the producers but again.....she is not that well known. Only in her head.
FURIOUS digitari 's picture

What do you mean be "happy

What do you mean be "happy slave", isn't she being paid? Also, there is only lead in any drama, and everybody else is supporting cast, check the Awards shows. I think Taraji is in for a rough Hollywood awakening, you just don't talk bad about a show you are in they the Network and Producers will never forgive you and if it fails you will be blamed. Don't go to Facebook and insinuate that the Network and Producers are racist, remember they overlooked a lot of blondes to hire you - got to the Producer and complain behind closed doors.
Gymo's picture

reading is fundamental.

reading is fundamental. according to this report she didn't say a word about the network or the show's producers. she complained about tv guide.
WhoGonCheckMeBoo's picture

That was such as stupid thing

That was such as stupid thing to do now there will be tension on the set and they will be looking for a good way to get rid of her, and because of the tension there won't be good chemistry between the leads and that can doom a show. Taraji, What were you thinking, you have just earned a reputation of being difficult to work with, J.J. Abrams, is one of the most black friendly producers in Hollywood and you now accuse him of racism.
Gymo's picture

I usually dont comment but Im

I usually dont comment but Im appaled by the tone of your comment that Tarajii should just shut up and be gretfull that she has a job. What kind of progress would have been made if black people were satisfied with the status quo and greatful for just being employed. Demanding to be treated with respect like every other actor that is one of the LEADS in a TV series should be applauded not derided. Word of advice GYMO "If you stand for nothing you will fall (in your case ACCEPT) anything"
Mr.Boombostick's picture

I beg to differ - I belive

I beg to differ - I belive she did the right thing in calling them out - sometimes you just have to call a spade a space and if he is the "most friendly black producer in hollywood" then he should have known better. She is not showing that she's difficult - she filmed and we heard no problems with anyone on the set. She was absolutely right and I'm only sorry that she removed the tweet. People are just too out of hand when it comes to Black folks and she was absolutely right!!
As An Observer's picture

It would be tension

It would be tension regardless!!! She put in hard work and time and wasn't even MENTIONED. Since everyone on hear thinks she shouldn't have said anything at all. Please tell me how YOU would have reacted to this if it were you. I think her reaction, although she could have went another route, was justified. It's just like any job when you work your @ss off on a project or whatever and the recognition is given to someone else, after you put in majority of the hard work.
