Jay-Z, Pharrell, & More Talk Race & Culture Relations In Business With Steve Stoute

On the heels of his latest book which hit shelves yesterday, Tanning Of America, businessman Steve Stoute (who is the branding and marketing genius behind some of the biggest celebs you love) has created a web series for AOL HuffPost where he talks with some of Hip Hop & Pop's leading tastemakers (like Jay-Z, Pharrell, Lady Gaga) about the interactions of race and business and how both are impacted by pop culture. Steve Stoute, author of The Tanning Of America: How the Culture of Hip-Hop Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy, has made a name for himself in both the music industry and through linking some of music's biggest stars with high profile endorsement deals and business ventures (e.g Justin Timberlake/McDonald's, LeBron James/State Farm Insurance) through his Translation Consultation & Brand Imaging company.

Now he is hosting a video series called “The Tanning Effect" with AOL HuffPost where he talks to superstars like Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams and Lady Gaga about race, business and pop culture. Interesting food for thought..especially for our fab business savvy readers.

Speaking of Jay, Fuse TV will air an encore presentation of “Fuse Presents JAY-Z Live From Madison Square Garden: ANSWER THE CALL,” Sunday, September 11th at 7pm ET, to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of 9/11. The two-hour encore presentation features Mr. Carter performing with Beyonce, Kanye West, Rihanna, John Mayer and Swizz Beatz.

And Steve will be launching his book tonight at Howard University in D.C.

Well I would have to say that i think hip hop plays a large role of influence in culture. I think as of recently it does damage to the image of black women. We black women have been shut out of hip hop and more recently we are either being degraded in hip hop or we are being dismised or devalued in hip hop. When these two men talk aout the image of blacks they are referring to BLACK MEN realize that. BLACK MEN are only about themselves. They use hip hop to portray an image that they are wanted all over the world and that black women are not. Hip Hop music is just another example of art imitating life : in that sense I mean black men not caring about anyone but themselves. I dont know why black women support it anymore. Plus the hip hop music influences white kids too but i cant think of any real positive influence coming from hip hop thats on the white community and black community.

Steve Stoute lost all credibility that he ever had when he trashed Esperanza Spalding. She sang for the President of the United States and will be around for years making music while Justin Bieber can only look forward to doing his 12th stint in rehab. I'm sorry I will never endorse or support someone like STEVE STOUTE. STEVE STOUTE is nothing new or even interesting in the world of Business. In fact all he really is is an UNCLE TOM for Corporate America. PERIOD. This man has worked in the music industry for years and has tried to fool corporate America into thinking that he has some special value as a "TASTEMAKER". Any person that reps an Artist or Entertainer can pitch them for endorsements it's nothing new. And getting a Mcdonald's ad for Lebron James is nothing to sing from the rafters about. Steve showed his true colors last winter when he took out that AD in the New York Times bashing the GRAMMY AWARDS. He spent over $40,000 BASHING people like Esperanza Spalding. A REAL ARTIST who beat JUSTIN BIEBER for BEST NEW ARTIST. It was a DISGRACE. He wrote and I quote... "Because there are many people who hadn't even heard of Esperanza Spalding. By the way, this was her third album, not her first, but she wins Best New Artist over Drake and Justin Bieber? How did this happen? I was sitting there watching the awards show with very prominent executives, one of them had to Google her. And I'm not saying I don't like her music, because that's not the point. What Drake and Justin Bieber did to cut through and become global brands, it's hard for anybody to argue that they're not Best New Artist ..." Steve Stoute does not like Esperanza because she does not employ him to sell her to Corporate America like Drake and Justin do. Saying that an artist deserves an award because they sold more, rather than saying an artist deserves an award because they had more of a cultural impact, doesn't make sense. Steve took that page out because the ARTIST that he reps LOST. This man is disgusting and GREEDY! And loves to BASH black women who have REAL TALENT. Typical MISOGYNIST. There are a lot of better things he could have spent his $40,000 on...possibly a charity or a philanthropic interest. Steve Stoute is just a corporate TOOL nothing more. And the title of his BOOK is beyond stupid and misleading. HIP HOP culture does not RULE the Economy FAR from it. 1. I don't think Steve Stoute bashed Esperanza Spalding, he bashed the Grammy's. 2.Who is Esperanza Spalding? What cultural impact has she made and is it bigger than Bieber's? If so how come her name left with the (grammy)wind that blew it in. Not too much said about her since then. 3. The Grammys should not be naming winners as way to introduce an artist to mainstream (that sounds like payola). 4. If that was her 3rd album why was she under best new artist catagory? 5.I think Steve was just trying to bring attention to the BS that these awarsd shows do and get away with. Steve Stoute DID Bash Esperanza Spalding. And he is nothing but a TOAD for Corporations. Art and Commerce are fine but he does not know his place in the grand scheme of things. His BASHING of the Grammy Awards was more about his clients not having a talking points he could use to SELL them to places like McDonald's or Double Mint Gum. Steve's comments that nobody knew who Esperanza Spalding was LAUGHABLE. Maybe people in his limited circle don't know her (or good music) but people who LOVE music clearly do know her. The fact that he would take an Ad out in the NYT to in essence BASH Esperanza Spalding in favor of DRAKE and Justin Bieber should tells you all you need to know about Steve Stoute. And he is a MISOGYNIST. I doubt he would have bashed a man in that way. And Grammy Awards should not be given out to people like Justin Bieber who don't make memorable music and only want to USE Music as a way of becoming Brands that shill things like Nail Polish (to his teen fans) and other nonsense that Steve would love to get a piece of in terms of his FEE. And Steve did not put anyone on BLAST but his own IGNORANCE. And Exploitation and GREED are bad qualities to have and ff the FACE of GREED is Black that does not make it right.
