Guess Who Swept Its Way To #1 At The Box Office...

YBF actresses Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer were champions at the box office once again as their movie The Help moved into the #1 slot with $20.5 million in sales. Get the deets inside.....

The Disney produced film The Help continues to show signs of staying power at the box office as it rose to the #1 spot recently, taking in $20.5 million in sales.

Industry vets say the film's good "buzz" is what accounts for the move and now The Help has racked up $71.3 million in its first 10 days of release.

David Holis, Disney's executive vice president of distribution, said

"We hoped that The Help would be a breath of fresh air at the end of a busy summer, and that has turned out to be the case."

Unfortunately, Lisa Bonet's baby daddy Jason Momoa's Conan The Barbarian didn't go as well.  The film had a budget of $70 million but only took in $10 million last week.

Here's how the top 5 performed:

1. The Help: $20.5 million

2. Rise of the Planet of the Apes: $16.3 million

3. Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D: $12 million

4. Conan the Barbarian: $10 million

5. Fright Night: $8.3 million

I am not surprised that the

I am not surprised that the movie is doing well. Word of mouth is building buzz for the movie. I read the book and loved it. I wasn't sure about the movie because sometimes they don't do the book justice, but this movie was wonderful. It was funny, heart warming, and entertaining! I say go see it you just may be pleasantly surprised.

I desperately want to see

I desperately want to see this movie!!!! I read the book and LOVED it!!!! These comments are too ridiculous. I can't stand being in the presence of angry, bitter black people. I LOVE my black people with all my heart but this is just too much. You complain about there not being enough Black movies & black people in movies, but when one comes out you bash it like it's public enemy number one. WHEN are we going to stop doing this to one another???? We as a people HAVE to get out of that crab in a barrel mentality. Did you bitter folks ever stop to think that this movie is going to be a catalyst for the careers of MANY of the black actors & actresses in the film???? Nope huh? Too busy hatin' SMH. I just wanna see us do better.

I saw this movie with a young

I saw this movie with a young white friend of mine who is from France and wanted to see how black people where treated during the Civil Rights era. She said she seen videos in history class but wanted a deeper understanding of the racial tension of the south. I and she really liked the movie and I am glad she got to see how things were like. Race is not such a big issue in France and she could not get her head around certain things in US history, this movie really help her understand black struggles.

Why do some people assume

Why do some people assume that all/most white people watched this movie and reminisced about the good old days? How about some of the younger white people who didn't live thru these times got an understanding of why some blacks are angry today and feel there is still a ways to go in race relations? I saw the movie and enjoyed it, but I can understand the points of view of others who didn't.

I didn't like the movie.

I didn't like the movie. Only because I've seen the same thing many times in movies made in the 70's and 80's. The story is not new and for those that think it is...you need to learn your history from books, not movies made by white folks. Not sure why Hollywood felt that now was the time to remind everyone of how docile and subservient blacks used to be. We have a black President, up for election, facing a lot of criticism... this was nothing more than a feel good movie to remind folks of the "good ole days"...when black people knew "their place". Theatre was full of old people crying and wishing their black mammies were still around to cook, clean and nurse them.

I don't think this movie

I don't think this movie portrays Black people in a negative, stereotypical way at ALL! If anything, this movie portrays just how racist most Whites were in Mississippi and pretty much all of the South during the 1960's. I believe this movie also shows the strength and resilience of Black women during these times when they (as well as Black men) were the targets for most of the hatred in America. I watched this movie, loved it, and applaud the author for her realness and not sugar-coating anything!

I haven't read the book nor seen the movie but I plan to do both. I can't really give an informed opinion about it. I have heard some positive things though. For the people who are getting upset about this movie do you get upset at SOME of the Tyler Perry movies with Stereotypical characters "portraying blacks in a negative light" ? I am just saying.

What about the movie was a lie? Did you ever think that perhaps some white people were interested in learning more about the history of racism, at least for the time period that it covers. Man, sometimes white people can do nothing right in some of ya'lls opinions.

There are several fantastic

There are several fantastic movies that portray negative black images. So many talented black actors and actress and all Disney could come up with is a period piece about mammies/housekeepers??? People please understand that this is a period in time, rights were very scarce for us, racism, jim crow, extreme segregation and denigration. Really, much hasn't changed. This movie is regression not progression and believe me it will Oscars for everyone evolved for a job well done. Check my new single "Diamonds" ft. It ain't no different than

It ain't no different than the coons Tyler Perry and other black directors create. It kills me that black folks ain't got no problems with the coons that are created by Tyler Perry and others but got problems with this. I know it's hard to see us as maids and butlers but guess what? Unfortunately, these were things our ancestors had to do in order to survive. They didn't like doing it but they didn't have much choice. We have to recognize this and accepted that this was the way it was. The movie is not protraying life today. It is protraying life in a previous time. We now have choices and most of us have more opportunities open to us but instead a good few of us still choose to coon and buffoon both on TV and on the big screens.

no, u ARE ignorant if u don't

no, u ARE ignorant if u don't know that movies are frequently promoted according to specific demographics (whatever they may be). and that many whites do not patronize what are perceived as "black" films. which is why movies with mostly black casts are rarely as successful as white films. knowing white people personally has nothing to do with this topic Ms. Anon Dumass.
