What a way to go Raven!!! It is nice to see that more women are embracing their natural hair. I am also a natural so I know how hard it can be to embrace your natural hair. Its almost been a year and I am still wearing protective hairstyles. I hope by my one year mark I will be able to have the confidence to wear my natural hair out. I never would have thought that Raven would have done something as extreme as this. Go Raven!!

I was a FAITHFUL watcher of "That's so raven" when it premeired on disney channel years ago. And i have to tell you guys that Raven wore her natural hair on the show many mahy times and her natural was long, full, and healthy looking. So to the poster that believed she was bald just because she wore weaves...she didnt wear them all the time and just because a woman wears a weave does not mean she is bald underneath. I think that is the stereotype that goes along with black women wearing weaves, everyones not bald...some people just really like weave.

I'm happy to see Raven take

I'm happy to see Raven take out the weave and let her real hair breathe. I'm very shocked to see she has a full head of hair because most black women who have been wearing weaves, extensions, lace fronts for more than 5 years are usually bald headed or have very thin long hair. I hope she has fun with her real hair.

To the ladies saying that if

To the ladies saying that if you are in the "dating/marriage" market to consider the dudes point about going natural: when you go natural, you will start attracting A DIFFERENT TYPE OF BROTHER. so the brother who's into the straight hair steez is not hollering for you, so what? If Weaves and perms were the way to get a man, then all ya'll weave wearing heffas would be wifed up and ya'll know that's not the case so stop it. I ve been natural since i was 18 and I am now 30 and I have never had a problem attracting men. Maybe it's my confidence, who knows. But I also know some brothers do not check for me because of my nappy hair, but THATS cool, cause all the other ones are stepping over their neck to get to me!!!

Raven looks like a cross

Raven looks like a cross between Wanda Sykes and Jasmine Guy in that picture with Mickey Mouse. Her natural hair looks waaaaaaaaaay better than the weaves. She is one child star that appears to be on the straight path (i.e. not smoking up her money, on crack, buying 25 cars with rims, etc only to be broke down the road).

I went natural years ago, totally nappy and happy and let me tell you I got HATE from my own people, especially the men. You know who gave me love, white men and that is MY truth!! I am not ugly and if I put in a weave I could rock it like it was my own, but I love the freedom of the hair that God gave me. I do not feel special or superior, I feel free!!!

Beautiful Raven just

Beautiful Raven just Beautiful As a woman I would not change anything about my appearance to please any man or to attract one either. If my looks aren't good enough for him, then that's not who I am supposed to be with in the first place. A man that wants you because your butt is fat or your boobs are big and skin color etc. That man is not the one for you. Women think about it. I like it on her.

There are so many black women

There are so many black women going natural, but are doing it in different stages. Many are doing it under weaves and wigs, others are transitioning their relaxed while keeping both textures, and others are chopping it off like Raven did. You can't imagine how rapid this movement is going. And even my relaxed sista are relaxing less frequent for growth and healthy hair. It's not Raven's hair that ages her, it's the weight loss.

First of all, why is hair

First of all, why is hair such a big issue with black folks? We are never put such great emphasis on the important things that other races are excelling at a rapid pace ahead of us-education, finances, science, professionalism, family, health, etc... Instead, we worry about how someone is wearing their hair. SMDH! With this mindset, we will always be behind and stuck in a rut. Anywhoo, Raven wearing her so called natural hair is not breaking news. She's always worn her natural hair curly or blown straight. She has only changed the style by cutting it shorter. Lets move beyond the hair and look at what a great role model she is. She is smart, well spoken, classy and professional. I think that counts for way more than any type of hair on your head. Sigh...black people, we've got to do better.
Annie Annonymous's picture

Raven has not always worn her

Raven has not always worn her natural hair she did an interview on CurlyNikki.com in which she talked about how Hollywood as treated her natural texture. This is so much more than about hair. She is definitely a great role model as you said, but confidently walking around looking like the person she was created to be is showing an even bigger message to young girls. That's the message most of them need in a world where they are seen as a project that needs to be straightened, lightened, shrunken and given a new identity. Hair is not the number one issue but it is important. This is seemingly the only country where natura is so criticized among black women as if it's not good enough. Now that's sad.

I love natural hair there is

I love natural hair there is lots of different hairstyles you can do with natural hair. I hate relaxers the smell itself nearly kills me, and my scalp burns like crazy. Relaxers have way to many chemicals !!!! Natural hair you can either press/ hot combs or use flat irons. I believe these relaxers are thinning my hair.

Sorry but as a black man, my

Sorry but as a black man, my eyes tend to overlook the girls with naturals and zero in on the women with real shoulder length hair, or at least a realistic weave that doesn't shed. I also think some women look great with the short hair as well. Call me brainwashed or whatever, but I've only been into BLACK WOMEN and I like what I like. I've seen some 10's go down to 6's because they think they can pull off the natural when everyone cannot! Plenty of my friends have admitted they have received less attention from men when they cut their hair off and they went back to their permed hair as soon as they could because their hair was too thick to manage. I'm sure that's not the case for all. I'm just saying some women can pull off the afros and some women cannot.

I will agree you on this

I will agree you on this point and this point alone - some natural sisters don't style their hair with the sexy in mind. I think that there many explanations for this but there are two that stick out in my mind - first is that it may just be the process of evolution. Go back and take a look at some of the outrageously hideous hairstyle we sported in the early eighties when perms first introduced. Second, it is simply their choice and they do give two nickels what ya think. I used to be one of those natural sisters who did not bring on the sexy. I didn't know what to do with all that hair and it looked like it too. Well that was in the past. I style with the full intention of bringing on the sexy. I luuuuuv my natural hair, my god. By the way, Rave looks gorgeous. She is a doll and funny as hell. Keep it great young sister.

I tend to agree with you on

I tend to agree with you on this point and this point only - some sisters don't where their naturals with the sexy in mind and that is their choice or it may be the process of evolution at work. When I began wearing my nature, I use to be one of those sisters. I am proud to say I bring on the sexy (or so I hope) when I style my short fro. However, I would like to point out - go back to the early eighties when the perm became popular - the hairstyles were absolutely hideous. We are engaging and communicating, this is a beautiful thing people. Peace & love to all my sisters and brothers. By the way, Raven is absolutley gorgeous and funny as hell. Keep it great young sister.

how can you "pull off"

how can you "pull off" natural??? you're born with that texture of hair it's not something that's pulled off... do you "pull off" your skin color? And afro's are a style of wearing your natural hair. Not every natural wears an afro, a fade or locs. Basically you are attracted to black women who can "pull off" wearing fake hair or chemically straightened hair. Plus a lot of men are turned off by short length which is what a lot of new naturals rock after cutting off relaxer. "pull off"... just not a good term. Think you were right when you said brainwashed :-)

Ok, as much as I hate to

Ok, as much as I hate to agree with this guys statement, there is some truth to it! Sorry fellow ladies!! Let me preface this by saying I DO NOT hate being black, or hate natural hair or the sisters that rock it...However, the natural, fro, twists, dreads is something that yes is a personal choice, but is not for everyone. It really depends on the shape of your face, how full or slim your face is, your bone structure etc. Sisters do have to be careful and really choose a style that is right for them, not just what you like on someone else or what is easy! The stronger or harsher your features are, the softer the style should be, unless you are going for the Grace Jones look on pupose. If you are on the heavier side and your face is round and plump, Dont rock a short Ceasar, because you have too much face to carry off such a small amount of hair. Dreads really is a case by case basis, for goodness sake they should always be kept up with new growth maintained. I tend to feel the smaller the dread the better. If you have a softer curlier type of hair I would say you have a few more options because the curly hair type gives you a little more versatility. I have had friends go natural and it rocked, but others not so much. One ended up looking like a chubby hardcore lesbian(No Hate). Just find what really works for you. I just want us all to be presented in our BEST possible light!! For those that dont care about presentation and just dont care about what men are attracted to then i guess you can ignore this. But the brother made a valid point and is letting us REALLY know what they are thinking and feeling. So if you are in the dating/marriage market, then I think it's at least worth considering. Blessed day all!!

Many women are natural with

Many women are natural with Kinky hair and you just don't know it. Because people know little to nothing about the diversity of natural hair and styles and you think it's nothing. Go look at Chime (Hair Crush) on Youtube who looks like a model with kinky natural hair and you'll change your mind about attractiveness. Again, the natural movement it moving faster than you think, women are just doing it differently. Some chop it off like Raven, some transition relaxed hair with two textures and other go natural under wigs/weaves.

You definitely do not have to

You definitely do not have to apologize for your preference as I am sure you are not appealing to women with natural hair either. Brother, you seem like you have your own issues to deal with. Do you hate your own hair like this? SMH. Anyway, if your friends are experiencing negative feedback from boys, I would suggest they find some new friends (I.ei YOU) that truly care about them and will love them for who they really are.

If you're natural, that's

If you're natural, that's fine, but everyone does not have to jump on that bandwagon. The fact is EVERY black woman does not look AS attractive natural. As a man, I personally don't find women with afros and fades as good as mine attractive, not to say the woman has to have bone straight, long hair because I hate ridiculous weaves that shed as well. Besides plenty of women with natural hairstyles are dying their hair brown, blonde, and red does that mean they are still trying to conform to some European standards? Why can't they be proud of their black hair? Why can't there be diversity? All the black women don't have to look the same. The way you wear your hair should not define you that much. DO YOU!

I recently decided to rock my natural hair...It wasn't because I was trying to be this fist pumpimg sista, but because I had worn the perm since I was 6 years old. My hair started shedding even when I had a fresh perm and it just became so unhealthy for me...I must say that do miss my relaxed hair, but my hair is so much more healthier now, and I do rock nice styles...

I agree with that comment by

I agree with that comment by "T". I'm not natural and probably would never go natural however many women, not all, that are natural seem to think they're more superior. This is just my personal experience, not others. I don't get it. Allow a woman to wear her hair any way she wants! I've seen hair on women with relaxers that look just as horrible as hair I've seen on women who are natural. I recently started wearing weave and MY hair has actually grown from it. Its all about who you allow to style your hair and how you maintain it. ... and to all the women who think you're superior because you're "natural", which some of you are in this blog after reading the comments, I hope you're not wearing makeup, push up bras or spanx because CLEARLY all of those are enhancements to your "natural" beauty. You can't scream "I'm natural" when you wear pounds of makeup... GTFOH
