Kanye's "Monster" Video BANNED By MTV, Kanye Rolls To Paris Fashion Week

Wondering why you still haven't seen Kanye, Jay, Ricky Ross and Nicki Minaj's controversial "Monster" video on tv? It may be because MTV has banned it, thanks to protests from feminists groups.

Read on for what the feminine activists took issue with, plus pics of Kanye at Paris fashion week, when you read on...

A petition was submitted to MTV (and likely other music channels) by feminine activists Sharon Haywood and Melinda Tankard to not show Kanye and co's "Monster" video. And it looks like the networks are choosing their battles--and Kanye's vid is not gonna win it.

Reportedly, MTV has agreed not to air the video. Here's the activists' stance:

“The mainstreaming of videos like this increases desensitized and callous attitudes toward violence against women,” said Reist, one of the campaign originators.

“Young people are seeing images and absorbing harmful messages which glamorize misogyny and brutalize women. Women are reduced to sex-doll like playthings. So great is the level of desensitization that the barbaric treatment of women and girls is seen as normal and to be expected. We decided to run this campaign because we wanted to challenge the status quo.”

I don't think race can be dismissed as a factor in this debate, the issue of misogyny in music videos and how it is communicated has become far too complex for that. However, this is a disturbing video. Much of the imagery is careless and as a result dangerous. Yes worse is often seen in horror films and there are issues with that too but the difference here is the potential repetitive exposure to the images here along with the music is highly influential, far more so than in a film. It's sad that sick minds communicate so much rubbish under the guise of art, when it really isn't.

If they really are concerned about the way women are depicted in the media than they should have protested all previous videos that show women in compromising situations. Lady Gaga's video Paparazzi has a woman hanging from a chandelier. They only care now because of the appearance of white females in these videos by black males. I believe that this video is a bit excessive, and due to the lack of balance their is in the portrayal of women in the media, this is too much. The issue here is the demoralization of women, and the depiction of gruesome violence against women that aids in desensitizing the issue. The other day I saw a story on television of a man who was having aggressive sex with a woman to the point where he choked her to death. This cannot be the norm for our society, and when we see things that depict the very essence of that it is important for someone to speak on it. This is not a racial issue, yes Kanye West is an African American man however; the aggressive nature of this video is offensive to a certain degree. Bottom line is some art crosses the line and it is important to speak on it when it's necessary. This should be a message to all that we need start to have boundaries again. We will attack a racially issue when it arises and we will attack a sexist issue when it arises lets become human again.
