The market took a nose dive a few years after she got that settlement. Maybe she bought real estate or maybe she made investments that seemed ok at the time but crashed and burned along with the market. Taking the money upfront was the right decision. If someone has to pay you $20 a month every month for the rest of your life, that money loses value every year. Better to take the lump sum and invest it. Is she is broke; it sounds like she is a victim of the recession. Also, $15 million isn't much given all the money Eddie Murphy has -- she got hosed. Maybe she signed a prenup?

First off Strahan shouldnt have to take care of a woman that got 15 mill in a settlement. How can you blame him for her bad decisions hes not in the poorhouse because he has common sense she obviously doesnt .You dont put all your money into investments because they arent guranteed. I agree with you! It is very possible to blow through that amount of money if she was still trying to live the same lifestyle she was when she was married to Eddie Murphy. The difference back then was he was doing movies (Shrek, Daddy Day Care, Dr. Doolittle) on a regular and bringin in checks on a regular. Sinc eshe was not a finance major in college and probably have no hand in the hosehold finances when she was married, she had no clue what to do with $16M when it was given to her. If anyone who never had that lump sum amount of money before all of a suddenly got it, of course they would think it would last forever or at least a long time. She was hopping to probably get remarried to someone with paper before it ran out. Michael Stahan already got burned once and probably is still paying alimony and child support. He is only making money on commercials, endorsements and a few tv and movie cameo's. he isn't making that NFL dough anymore. He isn't looking to get remarried and be taken to the cleaners again. She sould have taken the monthly payments and some child support. If she was investing her money in the stock market or real estate she definetly lost a grip in th epast few years. She should have opened a boutique or something and lived a modest lifestyle. Get an agent and get some modeling gigs or some Revelon commercials...something besides hanging on Mike's arm. Money go quick when you dipping in it and not putting anything back in the bank account. She should have had Plan A, B and C in the works before she signed those divorce papers. However, at the end of the day, we don't know if the story is true since it is coming from the Enquire...but it is possible.

Your story is my story, my sister. I have been unemployed for forever and a day but the fridge stays full, my bills is paid and my children had a lovely Christmas without help from a man or welfare. Still got a few dollars in my pocket because I don't want to go into the new year broke. Keep it up girlfriend. Black women get a lot of flak from society and our men but we know how to make shit happen. And P.S. I got my interview wig too :)

I applaud you for adjusting to your circumstances and cutting back the unnecessary things that we take for granted. You should be proud of yourself. You probably could do seminars or write a best-seller on how you survived the worst recession on unemployment. I like to hear positive stuff like this. You make us proud.
