To me this doesn't have anything to do with Oprah's popularity, whether or not she is "God" (which she isn't), etc. I think it's more important to be a person of your word. If he told her he was going to be on her show on a given day, then barring some extreme circumstances he should honor his commitment -- particularly since this is her last season and she is probably booked for months. I don't think that he will be losing or gaining a significant number of fans regardless of whether or not he is on her show. How many real hip-hop heads do you know who watch Oprah?
