UPDATE: Mario's Arrest Linked To Mom's Drug Addiction

As we previously reported, this past Friday morning, singer Mario was arrested for assaulting his mother in her Baltimore home. We've got more details as to what really happened when you read on...

Mario's lawyer has blamed Mario's mother's irrational behavior for "an unfortunate incident between a loving son and a mother who continues to struggle with a devastating addiction."

None of us are shocked this situation was related to the drug use in some way.

Mario was charged with second degree assault after police were called to Shawntia Hardaway's Baltimore apartment. She alerted the authorities that Mario, 24, was inside her apartment damaging property. According to police, Shawntia claims Mario started yelling at her and pushed her in her chest which caused minor pain. A broken china cabinet, mirror and busted door were also discovered at the scene.

"Anyone who has waged the battle to save loved ones from the forces of drugs knows the irrational behavior that almost always accompanies their actions," said Hassan Murphy, Mario's Baltimore attorney, on Saturday. "Despite the allegations, Mario remains committed to supporting his mother."

Sad. However, problems between Mario and his mother stem way back. In 2007, Mario's turbulent relationship with his heroin-addicted mother was filmed for a documentary called "I Won't Love You to Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom."

Mario took to Twitter this morning to thank his fans for all their support during this time.

Hopefully these family issues can be resolved. Having a drug addicted family member can bring out the worst in people who have really just had enough.

You really can't judge unless U been there....a drug addict can get so far gone that they stop being a MOM. I know what it is like, so while everyone jumped down his back (and still is)when it first came out need to show more compassion! I felt like people were going to thro him under the bus, but unless you been through what he has it is hard to weigh in. People will have their opinion, but it easy for people to lack compassion unless it was them. Trust no one supports his mother more than him so give the boy some slack. I don't blame Mario. It's very hard dealing with a loved one on drugs. You try to be strong and look at the situation as "A Disease". If the persons doesn't stop or doesn't even try, eventually YOUR mind breaks down, and everything you've been holding in just comes out and can't be controlled at that time. Yes, I feel sorry for Mario. Unless you have a parent or family member that's on that "stuff" or an alcoholic, you have no idea what its like. He's going to have to let her fall...hard! If that means she's out on the streets or living in a crack house...SO BE IT!!! When you have a parent in addiction, you feel like a drug addict yourself. As their child you will always wonder where they are, what they are doing, and if they are in any danger. Its a terrible way to live. But, if he's going to have some kind of peace...he has to let her go and let the chips fall where they may. And its not his fault, if the unthinkable happens. As an adult child, he can assist and help his mother through her addiction, but he can't fix her. She has to do that on her own. Much hope, love and blessings to Mario and his mother.

I think the mom is lying. Look at the police report from the original story -- it states that both a china cabinet (which usually has glass doors) and a mirror were broken. The mom claims Mario did it with her hands. If that were true, wouldn't the police report reflect some kind of injury to her hands? Also, she claims that he pushed her into a wall and she hit her head, which still hurt. If someone pushes you into a wall, some part of your torso or back is going to be bruised...yet there's nothing in the police report about that, either -- conveniently, she claims that her head still hurts (the one part of your body where it's hard to see injury without pretty much shaving your scalp). If he REALLY assaulted her earlier in the week, why didn't she call the police THEN? Sounds like mom wanted to hit the rocks again then pitched a fit when she couldn't.
