Welcome to Bible Study January 14 2009 receive this Weekly Deposit in prayer Not some but all of us have an "urge" to do some kind of "right" most of the time - people are just looking for a Reason or a Push to do the Right Thing. By you doing your part as a "Christian" you give people a reason you give people Permission in a sense you give them MOtivation to do what "the God in them" really wants to do. :think have you ever been in a situation and you came to a "cross roads"? you could go or you could stop you could say yes, or say no you could go further or walk away you could give in or Get out all you needed was a PUSH a reason maybe even a -INVITE- to do what you know to be right. +a invite to do right+ if its happened to me i know it's happened to you- :think you've gone out to a lounge to hang with friends and one friend says, "hey, we all gettin' drunk tonight let's gooooo!" Well you don't want to be the party pooper so you start debating within yourself, "i know God wants me to be sober minded, ALERT, good and able to make wise decision at the drop of a dime ... but i don't wanna look like a square and i want to let loose and have a fun also, its been a long week"... now in this situation, what if you one of your friends had enough COURAGE to say "Naw i pass, personal Choice" regardless of the funny looks that person gets they have stood their ground and are happy with their decision and God is pleased with their choice. One small "No" like that is a INVITE for you to also say "No". :a couple of weeks ago we discussed 1 Corinthians 6:12: Avoiding Sexual Sin 12 You say, "I am allowed to do anything"—but not everything is good for you. And even though "I am allowed to do anything," I must not become a slave to anything. the point here is clear "you have to RUN "your" Man" meaning don't let your situation or peer pressure decide for you!! My grandfather would always tell me, "make your own mistakes" when you don't "run your man" >> you find yourself like a leaf in the wind going wherever the wind blows. << no body reading this lesson wants that description to be the SUM of who they are. SO you must practice Self-Control ESPECIALLY and EVEN in the most extremely Tempting or Aggravating situations and Circumstances. 1 Peter 1:13 [ A Call to Holy Living ] So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. Proverbs 25:28 A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls. Proverbs 5:23 He will die for lack of self-control;he will be lost because of his great foolishness. self control is the main entrance to Peace of mind and Happiness without self control, there is no situation control. remember... dance to the beat of your own DRUM. you don't have to do it just cause everyone else is- not even if that Special One person is doing it. :think sexual temptation is a popular subject these days due to the way it Front-Lines in our Society. some of us have even tried to alter or re-interpret Gods outlook on sex before marriage and adultery. well this is where the "personal" in your personal relationship with Christ kicks in. Along with the Bible as our Light and our Guide- Gods spirit resides in us to help us not only Know right from wrong but "FEEL" right from wrong. so for instance you have found someone that you are very Fond of and the 2 of you decide to "date" or "court" or hang out, get to know one another. In a private setting the hugs turn to kisses and the kisses turn up the heat and then... you find yourself at the "cross roads". which of you will give the other Permission to do what's right? which of you will give the other a Reason to breathe and consider the BIG Picture? WHO will say, "you know what, i'm not sure if we should go there?" will you have enough self control to say it, or will you be "a leaf in the wind". who will INVITE the other to a HIgher level of Living? *(Be creative- there are usually more options that you initially see when you think sin is the only option.) Its not a easy Job being the VOICE of REASON in a WILD World- but "the voice of reason" is what you have been called to be. Matthew 5:14-16: 14 "You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. will you let your Light SHINE? Can you LOOK past your WANT and see your NEED? it's not a easy job - but it's not impossible either! Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. understand - "perfection is not something you can achieve without grace and mercy." if that doesn't make sense to you right now, just keep trying to live right and you will begin to understand. God desires that we seek his approval and pleasure in all we do- many times i still makes choices based on what "i want" but my Conviction won't allow me to settle or rest in my defiance. Last year in one of our classes in the sanctuary a Preacher came up to me after class and said, "you are a young man and i see you up here trying to make and be a difference. understand right now that YOU WILL NOT always make the right decisions, you will stumble, you may even Fall- but you MUST always remember to get back up WHEN it Happens. You are a work in progress and God is not through with you." these are some of the words that encouraged me to keep pushing even when i MESS up. and Many times having the right friends around me made it a lot easier to do right because they INVITE ME to do the right thing. do you remember the lesson about if you forget your REASON for doing good- you will lose your motivation for doing good. Let us take the initiative in INVITING our friends with our ACTIONS, to do the right thing. We all Need that INVITE at times. :in conclusion i know this lesson is hard to accept because of all the FLAWS we individually know that we Have. We feel so unprepared for Christian Living we feel so morally inadequate we feel like we will never get it right But please be encouraged in knowing that Romans 4 The Faith of Abraham 1Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of our Jewish nation. What did he discover about being made right with God? 2 If his good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about. But that was not God's way. 3 For the Scriptures tell us, "Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith. 4 When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. 5 But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. 6 David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it: 7 "Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. 8 Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin." 13 Clearly, God's promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God's law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith. 14 If God's promise is only for those who obey the law, then faith is not necessary and the promise is pointless. 18 Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—... 20 Abraham never wavered in believing God's promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. 21 He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises. 22 And because of Abraham's faith, God counted him as righteous. 23 And when God counted him as righteous, it wasn't just for Abraham's benefit. It was recorded 24 for our benefit, too, assuring us that God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God. remember: EVeryone that believes in God must know that He also Believes in You- or else He would not have invested so much in You. lets not be careless on this new year but let us be CAREFUL and Courageous.
