I believe she was referring to her french manicure, not calling her a french mannie. Loved Sisters of the Yam...great book. However, her hair looks ridiculous. We can have beautiful locs, braids, twists, etc. without looking like foolywang material.

I agree with cmsecrets What out of touch person thought that "french mannie" was offensive??? french mannie as in French Manicure, as in nails. Locs are beautiful. However, unkempt locs are not and Khia does indeed look a hot mess in this pic...and this, coming from a fan

MisEducation of the Negro mind! This is the 21st Century and still we get offended when a sista decides to pull from mother Africa when chosing a hair style. Sista wore and still wear their hair like this in Africa. Calling her a french mannie, or any other negative comments is sooooo sad! Sistas whom preceive her hair as mannie, please read "The Souls of Black Folk, Sistas of the Yam, The miseducation of the Negro, and really begin to think outside of your own limitations.
